an okay place to live, better than most, worse than a few

Jefferson School has it's pros and cons, and whether it is right for you depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a swinging singles party-place, this isn't really the spot (though you might find a few apartments here and there for that). We don't know any of our neighbors, and that seems to be okay with all of us. If you are looking for quiet and solitude, you might be able to find it here, depending on who moves in above or below you. The first year and a half we lived here, we never heard our neighbors (a series of 3 different sets of tenants) and were impressed by the relative quiet. Then a few months ago we got new neighbors above us who we hear every day, playing their music really loudly, banging on the floor doing who knows what. It isn't so bad that we want to move out, but an unpleasant change from the rest of our time here.
In the two years we've lived here, the apartment has decreased in quality somewhat, but is still okay. The management when we started were really good--courteous, friendly, and did their best to be helpful within the terms of their company's policies. Now, things have changed a bit, and they have a couple new staff members who aren't as helpful as the original two were, but are still okay.
They replaced the maintenance guy about a year ago, and he sucks. He doesn't really know how to fix things, and has to try several times on some projects, and he is kind of lazy. The landscaping is decent, but they don't keep up the grounds that well, leaves are still all over the place and trash is frequently not cleaned up for a couple days. But, it isn't a trash pit or anything, it is pretty decent.
The surrounding neighborhood is very diverse, though is probably not the nicest, and although I don't personally know anybody who has had any car break-ins, the police do show up across the street and in the neighborhood quite a bit. But we haven't had any problems, and as long as you don't plan on walking alone around the neighborhood at night, you should be fine.
Parking is okay. There is only one assigned spot, so for additional cars, it isn't nice and convenient, but not as bad as some places I've lived, you can usually find a place on the street that isn't too far away.
Overall, this place is fine. It is decent for being pretty close to downtown, really close to the freeway, and the price is decent for our apartment, which is 2BD 2BA. If you can afford a nicer place, go for it, but if you can't, this isn't too bad.
