Run Away!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2008
I have lived at Lake Pines Apartments for a long time. Over the course of that time the complex changed managers and also was purchased by another company. This has proven to be the downfall of what started out as a great place to live. DON'T MOVE HERE! ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE SMALL KIDS OR A QUIET LIFESTYLE.
I think that where you live in this complex will determine whether you enjoy it or not, but there are certain bad qualities you can count on:
1. Smokers-and lot's of them. If you don't like cigarette smoke, don't come here. You'll be breathing it everyday whether you are inside your own apartment with the windows open, or walking to pay your rent. The management is completely ineffective in solving this problem.
2. A "vibrant" night life. Night is anything but quiet at this complex. There are often very loud parties and often domestic spats that spill out into the common areas. And when I say night, I'm not saying midnight or 1:00 am. I am referring to 3:00 in the morning!!! If you end up living in a secluded corner of the complex with good neighbors, you might not deal with this, but neighbors change so do you really want to take that chance'
3. Hold on to your wallets, here come the fees! You pay for everything in this complex, your laundry, all of your utilities, and you pay a fee for them to bill you for your fees. I'm not kidding, it is true. And the billing "service" sucks. You often don't know what you have to pay each month because their paper bill is only for utilities, so any extra fees like cable, pets, or late fees, don't show up.
4. The repair people. They are nice and sometimes prompt, but ineffective. Many do not communicate in English well and often leave without really fixing anything. The management claims to have hired new staff members over the year, yet the service doesn't get better. To add insult to injury, if you page the maintenance people for what you feel is an emergency, but they don't consider it one, they will charge you $50! What constitutes an emergency' Power outage, heat or cooling outage, or a clogged toilet but only if you have one toilet. If you have two, it's $50. Yes, it is true. They would rather have you live an entire weekend with you toilet full of filth than have their maintenance people be disturbed. I have personal experience with a similar situation and let me tell you, the Department of Health would shut a restaurant or hotel down if they did had this kind of policy.
5. Lock your doors. The management relies on a "courtesy patrol" for security. These people are useless. The Murray City Police force is very helpful and they spend a lot of time at this complex. Unfortunately there are still some shady characters lingering about and a lot of theft.
I could go on and on. Just don't live here.
