Great neighborhood, but that's about it

I absolutely love the neighborhood, the easy access to the highway, and the surrounding businesses. I have never had any problems with any of my neighbors, but I can hear every step the tenants above me make. At times, the dishes in my cabinets have rattled when they walk heavily in their kitchen. There were quite a few minor and/or cosmetic problems with the apartment in general but when we moved in, we accepted them because of the low rent.

Unfortunately, the company will only sign 6 month leases, and both times we have renewed our lease, it has been raised $25 per month. Damage and wear that was acceptable at the move-in rate is no longer acceptable in my opinion, and we will be moving at the end of our lease.

As for the staff, I have found the manager to be pleasant, and the other office workers to be wonderful. The office is open every day from early in the morning until 10:00pm, which I really appreciate. The maintenance man is friendly, but I have had problems with him. When I reported after moving in that my bathtub stopper would not work properly, the note he left only said "Sorry. Cannot fix." Once, his knock woke me from a sound sleep, and I was fumbling to pull clothing around me and hold the door as he tried to force his way in; I was screaming, "Just a minute!" and he kept shouting, "Maintenance!" as he shoved against the door. He apologized once I let him in, but I was home alone and I was very shaken up.

Finally, the only safety issue I have had was with the laundry rooms. On three occasions, someone went through my loads and removed all of my undergarments from the other clothing. I reported it to the office staff and was told that they knew it was a problem, but the only thing they could recommend was for me to stay with my laundry at all times. Everything about this experience gave me an uncomfortable feeling.

These are not bad apartments, over all. There are lots of families, and parents feel safe letting their children play outside. There are three pools and a very nice exercise room that are all maintained well, plus other amenities. Unfortunately, as the rent continues to climb, all the "little" problems seem to become much bigger!
