Pretty Average

Abbott's Run definitely has the best floorplans in the area--there are lofts on the 3rd floor of every building, some units have a fireplace and/or an extra sunroom which adds space onto the living room. There are floorplans that have two master bedrooms/attached bathrooms at opposite ends of the apartment, making it great for roomates. Like everything in this area, its pricey--but unfortunately they don't seem to run specials like other properties.
It's true that the surrounding neighborhood is sketchy, but the properties closeby are nice--just take your pepper spray and a large dog with you if you stray past the immediate area! I make jokes all the time about the homeless people, drug addicts, and hookers that you see sometimes, but overall I can only recall two specific instances in which I felt unsafe in my 2 years here.
It is great that its a dog-friendly complex, even allowing big dogs, but unfortunately there are ALOT of people who really ruin it for everyone living here by refusing to pick up their dog's waste, despite the bags provided by the management between the buildings. Also, given that someone made the decision to own a dog, I think they should have considered being responsible for the dog waste and carrying their own bags--its nice the management provides them, but its no excuse to leave crap in the yard because the dispenser is empty! I wouldn't be surprised if the pet policy changes soon because of the problems that are occurring--thats just plain crappy for the responsible owners!
It's true that the compactor is broken alot, and it does stink to have to take your garbage with you on/in your car when you're going to work or whatever--because it is really far away for some residents. I think the trash piling up on most occasions is a result of lazy, inconsiderate people living here--it's unfortunate the management has to baby us so much! The staff have never been rude to me, despite some comments that they are not friendly to white people--that's just ridiculous. I would agree that the maintenance is less than ideal--but I think that's actually pretty average!
The apartments are a tad shoddy, but I can't complain about any noise--maybe I just have good neighbors. I rarely hear ANYTHING coming from another apartment and there are kids in this building. I do hear alot of noise coming in from outside though--such as kids playing (which is hard considering all the dog crap in the lawn mentioned above) or people in the stairwell.
Overall in every aspect I think that its pretty much the same here as everywhere else... Just learn where NOT to park your car when it rains (Mine was totaled last year like alot of residents)
