Did you all enjoy the helicopters circling and the police on foot with guns drawn early sunday morning' Well, I've had it with this area and the lack of safty and security on the complex. At this point they really need to hire security guards but all we have gotten was memos. Not to mention all the crime they dont warn us about such as an breakins while people are home. Windows are broken and apartments are being trashed. Recently the management circulated a memo informing residents that there was some sort of home invasion/robbery and that residents should take a pro-active role in protecting themselves from crime. The memo talked about make sure not that you don t allow non-residents to follow you onto the property or into the buildings . This memo was obviously a form letter that Archstone uses for their other properties, because Newport Village is not a gated community and the buildings have no access controls or security. This means that anybody can walk into any building or drive-on to the property at any time. There are always at least a dozen thugs hanging around the parking lots at all hours and if you re a single woman coming home at night you may want to get a gun permit.
The air conditioning is under a constant state of repair, so this means your apartment will be about 10 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. Management suggests that you open your windows to let in the cool night air . Yea that s a great idea if you want to be sexually assaulted or worse. So if you move into a bottom floor apartment and want to be safe, be prepared to sweat.

Um, that was actually the police chasing an Acura that was stolen in Fairfax County and ended up crashing at the corner of W. Braddock and N. Van Dorn. Had nothing to do with what this neighborhood is usually like. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/0

I thought I was the only one who say this coming from church sunday morning! They were on foot with guns in hand and pointed running up West Braddock and Fillmore Ave. Good times. Security is overdo at this point, they need a guard or locks on the doors. Lighting sould be better in the parking lots as well. I dont advise leaving your windows open at night either. Ive heard of many robberies and car thefts. I know you can request a crime report if you call the local police precinct.
As far as the air conditioning as long as they dont turn it off before it gets cool I will be happy I know its on a one-pipe system meaning the a/c or heat will be on not both at the same time.
