Some down sides, but worth it

Although I would not purchase a condo here, it's a good first home for someone just getting started in their career. Palazzo is an excellent location, just around the corner from 395, about 5 minutes away from the mall, 10 minutes from National Airport, and down the street from several shopping centers. The windows are constructed well to keep the cold air out, and the one bedroom floor plan offers plenty of space. Covred parking is good, as you don't have to shovel snow from off your car.
The walk in closet is great; unfortunately, it's in the bathroom and when the pipes in the upstairs apartment leak, count on your clothes to get ruined. The flooding not only hit my closet, but the hallway and the vestibule when you first enter my apartment. When maintenance came to check on the flooding, they knocked one time and let themselves in at midnight, saying they just assumed that nobody lived here. Maintenance "fixed" the problem by pulling up the carpet in my apartment and leaving it that way for at least a week. I had to call three times to get someone to put new carpeting down. A good piece of advice--buy storage containers to store your clothes in your closet to prevent mold.
The management is also very unprofessional. I was having furniture delivered to the apartment, and the management agreed to let the delivery company in--they gave the delivery man the key and just asked him to bring it back when he was finished. The same happened when a repairmen from an outside company had to fix my busted water heater--this time it didn't flood my apartment, but it did drip down onto the parking lot. Also, on a day where they needed to paint all the apartment doors in the building, they unlocked everyone's apartment door on the floor an hour before the painter showed up, and nobody ever came back to lock my door when he finished.
The walls are thin, so expect that everyone can hear your conversations, etc. Late at night I can often hear my upstairs neighbor's music so clearly I hear the words, and am subjected to hearing sex in the early morning hours. I complained to the management and they said a letter would be sent to the apartment the following day; however, when I called to check on it after more noise, they management said they weren't awar of any noise problem. The fire alarm goes off constantly, sometimes in the early morning hours, or especially on Sunday afternoons. Be prepared with a bag of important things and your keys next to your bed so you can drive somewhere else for the 30 minutes to hour it takes to turn off the alarm. I'm surprised the fire station hasn't fined this place enough times to make them fix the alarm. I'm lucky enough not to have a parking space that drips water, etc. on my vehicle; however, spaces are tight so you have to turn sideways to get in between your car and the one parked next to you. Visitors have a tough time parking, too. There are only a few spaces marked for visitors, sometimes in a different garage from where your apartment is located, but it's not too bad.
The parking lot is well lit, but there is no security here, no cameras, so just watch where you're walking at night.
Overall, it's a good first place once you start work, but I would never buy.
