The Aspen:
Great rent, location, and square footage, can not beat it! Let's keep it real, back in the 1960's this was probably considered a "luxury building", fast forward fourty years later and it is obviously going to have it's flaws, wear and tear, but still worth it.
I live on the 16th floor out of 17 floors, have a huge balcony that overlooks DC and Crystal City as well as the airport, surprisingly enough you do not hear the planes, sound windows (new as of last summer I may add).
I moved into the Aspen in February 2007 for many reasons, first and foremost the rent is reasonable, utilities are included, the aprtments are huge, parking is onsite and not a problem at all, has a pool for summertime fun, has a gym in the basement (although rather dated equipment), there is also a convienient store and dry cleaning facility on site.
My apartment is probably around 900 square feet (even the studios are huge, 650 sqaure feet). I had new amenities added when I moved in (stove, refridgerator, and microwave), laundry facilities are on each floor (3 washers and 3 dryers) never have a problem with congestion (maybe I am lucky!). The only downside of the Aspen is it is not metro accessible unless you take a bus to Pentagon City.
I have read many reviews that there are roaches, yes this is true, but far and few in between as they due a monthly termnination process. I have never seen one in my apartment, bathroom, kitchen, living room, or bedroom, but quite frankly if you let your trash schute accumulate with garbage, that is what you are going to get, however I will take a roach over DC rats anytime!
Overall I give The Aspen a good rating and would definitly recommend it to friends. If you want top of the line, brand new, luxury apartment this is not the place for you, moreso however a descent place with extras, then the Aspen is the place for you.

You're very uneducated: Descent, termination? No one can control how much trash others put in the Trash Chute! There shouldn't be any Trash Chute's. The management should have all of the lazy ------- tenants take their ---- outside to the dumpster. I'm sure that would get rid of the majority of these monster ------- roaches but nevertheless, even with all of the roaches gone you still have the ------- rude management that think they have everything figured out and think they're in control. I could take these -------s to court in a heartbeat and Win!

Uneducated? Bitter party of one this way! Relax, this is my opinion, you have yours so let's not pull the bullycard out. I have never had a problem with the Mangement. They have always been friendly and courteous if I have and problem and/or question, they welcome it. As for the maintanance staff, my requests, which are far and few inbetween have been taken care of the next buisness day. Again, if you are looknig for luxury, check out the new Eclipse down on Route 1 and or the Metropolitan at Pentagon City, however you will pay for that, however I guarantee they will also have roaches, it is human nature no matter where you live, as gecko's are to Florida. Lastly, if you are in with your nieghbors, maybe ask them "not to let the trash pile up" instead of turning the cheek the other way, hello?

I lived in this dump too. The Management is rude , and if you move in , know that you wont get your security deposit back. I failed only to return the key of the room and they used that as grounds for not returning my deposit. As if they dont even change the locks, or have another copy. In short, the place needs to be gutted, and the management needs to be canned. They would be better as College Dorm R.A.s .
