Avalon @ Cameron Court was a pleasant improvement for my Fiance and me, as we were moving to Alexandria from Washington, D.C. Considering what we were paying to live downtown, the $1322 a month for a large, well-appointed one bedroom w/ an attached garage seemed fairly reasonable. The size of the kitchen and bathroom was enouch to sell me, since these rooms have been insufferably small everywhere else Ive looked.
Paying three utilities in an apartment is new to me; however, the bills were never that high. It is best to get on the installment plan for the gas--you have a fixed amount you can expect to pay every month, and you wont owe much at the end of the year. For busy professionals who arent home that much, the utilities wont be an issue. For families moving into the townhomes, do some research before signing.
Overall, the grounds are lovely, the office and maintenance staff have been helpful and pleasant, and I believe that I have received good, quality service and amenities for my money. As I have read some of the other reviews of the property, I have noticed comments about the the security gate problems. For some reason, it seems that the gate problems only occur on the side of the complex where the rental office is located--people keep running into it with their cars''' (something to keep in mind...)
We have had maintennace issues with light fixtures, the garage door, a hole behind the stove through which a mouse was able to enter our apartment, the garbage disposal, and the ice maker in our refrigerator. I suppose that seems like a lot in a years time; however, things were taken care of in a timely fashion about 90 percent of the time. Not perfect, but better than many.
This property is absolutely beautiful in the winter, but again, snow means the security gates are left open, and we are paying to live in a gated community. Our rent was scheduled to increase to around $1430, but we were offered a nice savings incentive, if we renewed by a certain date. We have agreed that living here is wonderful if you have a large amount of disposable income--unfortunately, we dont. There are new complexes popping up all over this area. There are four other complexes within a mile of this one, some more expensive, some cheaper. Theres quite a bit of competition--so without a good incentive, Id definitely explore other options.
