Useless Office Staff

The office staff is rude and not helpful. One minute we are told they are not going to accept packages anymore and that they will be left by our door. Then we find out weeks later that they have been holding packages for us, and we never would have known if we had not been expecting a package and were checking on where it might be. Noisy neighbors are not addressed. We are told to call the police. Puh-leez. Take some responsibility. We pay plenty of money here. Way too much. Maintenance is always very nice, but the office people are rude, even as they answer the phone, and you haven't even stated your purpose yet. Dogs continue to use the grassy areas as bathrooms because of lazy owners. When you complain about the office staff, you are told that no one else ever complains about them. Yeah, right. Geeez. All in all, and mostly because of lack of niceness of the office staff, and because noise is not addressed, and the stairs sound like elephants going up and down, this place I would not recommend.

Funny--I've lived here since Labor Day. The office staff is always nice to me. They call me whenever I have a package waiting for me. They're nice when they answer the phone. And, if I have a maintenance call, the office staff calls me a few days later to see if I'm satisfied. Yes, dogs do use the grassy areas to go to the bathroom. Most of the owners here clean up after them, too. There are some who don't, but it's no way near as bad as other places I've lived. And, I've seen a service that comes around every now and then to pick up. My one complaint is the number of stray cats that live here, and the idiot residents that leave cans of food outside for them. Great way to attract rats. |

Both of these reviews are accurate. Some of the office staff is rude. However, none of them take responsibility for anything - "that is a corporate decision" - is the response that you will usually get. The most frustrating aspect of the office staff is that they lie. They don't get that the people that move into this community (at least the dog owners) are all very friendly and talk often. One of the things that we talk about is regarding who got deals on renewals and who did not and who is moving out becuase of it. Friends and acquaintences do not like to be treated differently in situations such as these. Just be friendly to the staff but be firm about what you want - you probably will still not get what you want but as long as you are friendly you have a better chance of them giving you what you want the next time. :) It is a royal pain in the arse! The real problem lies in that the staff could give a rats ass if you stay or go. I cannot imagine that the retention percentages of this community are any greater than 10% from year to year - horrendous! So, because of that they are insincere sometimes, nice sometimes and sucky sometimes. They do throw nice gatherings for the residents though! As far as the dog and grassy areas go - why on Earth would you EVER move to a community such as this if you are not a dog person!? Get real! There are dog biscuits IN the leasing office for dog visitors - you have fair warning! You are the outcast and the minority if you do not have a dog. Now if you like dogs you can cease to be an outcast but you will remain the minority. Look, a dog is going to go to the bathroom where they are going to go to the bathroom. Responsible people pick up! Look at it this way: Do you want to take a dump in an outhouse or on a toilet? Well, for dogs, that is the difference between grass and pavement! Have some sensitivity, please! As far as the stray cat thing goes - um, hello rats? Don't you think that the cats will take care of that?!?! They are cute and need food...again with the lack of sensitivity! The package thing is ridiculous - they don't know what the heck they are doing. Another fine example of their inability to get organized and be consistent. The inability to deal with noisy neighbors is atrocious and dumb! I guess they are worried about breakage of lease percentages and kicking-out percentages. My neighbor got out of his lease because of the racket above him - there are only so many times that you can call the police. And, you do not even know if you should call the police all of the time because there are some who think that they live in a dorm and blast their music and run around drunk - so you do not know if it someone getting beaten up or just people partying, and if they are just partying you do not want to call the police! Oh and make sure you know if you are moving near the train tracks and if your apartment has loud pipes that wake you up at all hours! You will not be informed of these things when you visit and look at models. Overall - I do not reccomend the community unless you have a dog, and you live for your dog! There is a great dog run on one side of the community and your dog will have a blast and you will meet nice people. Otherwise, keep looking. |

I would absolutely agree with animal22 that the office staff is not to be trusted. In my opinion, the management has lied to me with impunity on several occasions, especially regarding my attempt to renew my lease.

Wow...I am amazed as I read these responses! I am a part of the office staff and I take my job very personally. I love what I do and I love our residents. We do care what you think and what changes you may want done to the community, but yes, sometimes these changes are impossible or you are asking for something that costs a lot more than you know. As for packages, we have our own concierge that logs in your package and calls you within 48hours as a courtesy! We don't even have to do that or accept your packages! UPS, Fed-Ex and the US Post Office are required to leave you a notice on your door or in your mailbox, so if you don't know that you have a package, maybe you should blame the right people. Our service is just that, an additional service to make your life easier. As for noisy neighbors, for the most part, you will NOT find that here in our community! How do I know.....I LIVE HERE! If you do have a neighbor who is partying or fighting, who do you think you should call????? Our maintenance guys, so you can put them in danger?? That's really smart. As for the landscaping, I invite all of you reading this review to come take a look at our beautiful community. The landscaping is awesome and I would put a 100% into it that you would love the grounds and love living here. For those of you who don't like living here due to reasons that can't be solved to your liking.....maybe you should check out everyone else's ratings....they're not measuring up! Have a great day! :) |

I live on the Metro side of the complex. The noise from the trains doesn't bother me, nor does the noise from 495; but, if it did, I would have no one but myself to blame, since it is obvious that there is a lot of major transportation infrastructure there. I think the office staff is great--especially Candy and Cynthia--they are so friendly and professional. It is a CORPORATE property management office, which is also obvious. Notice how many Avalons there are in the metro area?? Of course there are going to be some things the local office doesn't have the flexibility to offer, but I've found that they jump at the chance to be accomodating if you take the time to discuss your situation and all the potential options with them instead of demanding something they can't make work. If one is looking for something more personal then he/she will have to sacrifice the ease, order, and structure that renting from a larger, corporate management company offers. It requires more work on the tenents' part both to find that kind of property, secure the lease and to stay on top of routine and nonroutine maintenence. If you aren't willing to make this trade-off then don't complain about the nature of your relationship with a large corporation. With respect to noisy neighbors, it seems to me that it is an issue with the neighbors and not the office. It must be difficult for them to judge whether someone's tolerence is too low, given the living situation that he/she willing chose, or if the neighbors are truly acting in a way that is abnormal and unacceptable. I have not had a single problem with a neighbor. If I have any complaints, it's that I don't know my neighbors (which is more than partially my own fault). I am a cat person, not a dog person, but I love the pet-friendly atmosphere, and I as I wrap up my 10 minute walk from the Metro, it makes me happy to come around the corner and see people chatting and playing with their dogs in the dog run. I have lived in similar places, and this one feels much warmer and less institutional. |
