Although the Avalon is "luxary living" I thought that it was overpriced for the "luxary" offered. I paid $1375/month not including ANY utilities (not even water!!) for the smallest one bedroom that they had AND they wanted to raise my rent well over $1400/month at the end of my lease. Including utilites I was already paying well over $1700/month for a 695 sq. ft. apartment -- do you think that is worth it' I mean, yes there is a pool and a gym (that comes with a mandatory, non-refundable, non-renewable-so-you-have-to-pay-it-every-year $250 ammenity fee). I mean, yes there is a gate -- but the thing was ALWAYS open. On top of all the fees and rent costs, I had to make a hefty security deposit and pet deposit on move in. Overall, compared to other communities within a 10 mile radius -- most overpriced.

This sounds like you were just living in an apartment that was beyond your means. Were there any problems with the complex itself, or just with the price?

"Luxary" is actually spelled LUXURY. But more to the point, when you're looking at an apartment, you really need to do your homework. I asked how much the utilities were, I asked about the rent increase after the year is up, I asked about all the fees and deposits before moving in and all of that went into my decision on the apartment. Compared to other communities of the same quality, it's really not much higher, but you have to know what you're getting into and know what to expect in terms of all of the additional expenses that come up. When you look at everything and realize that you don't want to pay $1700 a month for all of these things, then you look elsewhere. Sounds to me that you just didn't do your homework...
