I'm normally not a band-wagon type of person however if sharing my experience can help anyone avoid the turmoil I experienced then here it goes:

Ever since I was able to move off-post I looked at Barton's Crossing and ADORED it, the setup, the location, even the older renovation and to me the price seemed worth it for the security, covered parking and location to the highway and major military installations. Things happened and at the time I was able to move in ... fast forward 5 years, 2 relocations and home ownership - i was excited to be back in this area and immediately went to Barton's elated to see the stylish upgrades, to the complex as well as the apartment homes.

I moved in July 10th and the dream ended shortly thereafter, major tropical storm hit the NOVA area and i noticed the carpet a little squishy, long story short after 3 months of rain, a baseboard collapse, with-holding of rent and the involvement of Army JAG and 3 treatments for mold exposure and severe allergic reactions ( wet carpet from July was not removed until October). Rather than maintain a tenant they suggested moving me out and still also would not compensate my medical expenses or the inconvenience of having to live
1st - with moldy carpet for 3 months
2nd - for living w/out carpet for 3 weeks
3rd - refusal to compensate for the water damage and destruction of my furniture

Fortunately I was blessed to find a home at an older complex that was being completely renovated, there are still some minor things - no security ( except policeman that live here and patrol often) and no covered/assigned parking ( unless you pay for it) my rent now is 300$ cheaper and I have 200 more sq ft and still in NOVA ( check out Archstone Newport Village)

If you value your sanity, money and general disposition with people DO NOT RENT with BARTON'S CROSSING. They don't even pay their employees enough to live there (ok just barely enough) Keep looking.
