Getting Better

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2007
I have lived at Barton's Crossing for 4 years. The only reason I didn't move out after the first month was the hassle of it all. I lived in two different buildings and both of my apartments flooded; once due to renovations to the apartment above...a sink left on for 3 days, and once during a bad storm when the ceiling in the living room actually collapsed! The management and maintenance staff were apathetic, incompetent, and just down right awful. Like another review I read here, after waiting one month to have it repaired I threatened to take legal action and was asked to move out until they completed repairs. Long story short, they finally repaired the ceiling and repainted the apartment and I haven t had any further problems...and was not compensated for the damage or the hassle. The staff still sucked but when something needed to be repaired it was easier to do it myself than ask them to do their jobs. By the way, in the course of 4 years the staff had changed out completely 3 times. Puke in the elevator, dog urine in the stairwells, dogs on the elevator, people from across the street in the gym and parking in our tiny lot (parking is not enforced even though they made me get stickers) and lazy residents giving the security codes out to delivery men which has resulted in open access to our buildings for both solicitors and thieves.
Well Barton s recently changed management and it appears for the better. The new staff is friendly, helpful, and apparently gives a hoot about our satisfaction it s only been a few weeks but I have my fingers crossed. I am still too lazy to move now but do not think I will renew when this one is over. I wish they had been here 4 years ago.
Pros:
- Covered parking
- Fairly nice units
- Good location to the Metro Bus and Van Dorn Metro
- Pool isn t too crowded
- Staff seems to be getting better!
- Fairly good security in spite of lazy residents
Cons:
- Pricey (I pay $1800 for a 2 bedroom with no roommate)
- Parking lot is full of freeloaders and people who permanently park trailers, old motorcycles, and non running cars leaving no room for legitimate guests
- Pet owners are clueless to how they impacts others (dog crap not picked up and animals on the elevators)
- Gym is tiny
- Can't pay rent online
- Washer/dryer very tiny
- The Mariachi band that recently moved in above me
