Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I moved into Barton's Crossing about a month and a half ago with my boyfriend and so far we've been satisfied with our apartment. This is the first time I rent my own place and so I really didn't know what to expect, but to date I haven't encountered anything that hasn't been resolved in a timely manner. Because I was moving from out of state, I was forced to take a risk and I did something I would never do again, I sent in a deposit for this apartment without having even seen it. So far I've been very lucky although I did do some homework before I committed myself and most of it was based on the comments I read on here so I will be honest as I can be for those of you in my shoes.
Pros...
-I was able to sign a promotional lease so I know I got a great deal and I m saving tons of money.
-I could care less for covered parking, but my boyfriend loves it since he just got a new car. I'm sure come the winter I'm going to think differently, but there is enough ample parking.
-I haven't used all the amenities, but the pool is nice and it s kept clean.
-For the most part, the elevators in my building are clean, although sometimes they smell a little odd. I guess the pet owners in my building are responsible because I haven t seen or smelled any urine, etc
-This is irrelevant, but I love the free cookies & water bottles in the club house.
Cons...
-The parking garage seems to have a leak in the pipes because there are always puddles on the floor and it smells muggy sometimes.
-I have heard noise coming from my upstairs neighbor, but it s not unbearable or disturbing unless you re sleeping.
-My balcony floor appears to have mold, but they refuse to pressure clean it because then they'd have to do it for the entire community.
-This is more so a complaint against my lazy neighbors who leave their junk mail in a pile on top of the trash can, why not just toss it in the can'
-The security coded door to get in seems useless. Just about anyone can get in if they wait for someone to walk out. I'm always seeing delivery people and I wonder how they get in.
Maintenance issues...
I must say the maintenance staff here is really nice and attentive. They always call back quickly and if they can't come right away they'll set up an appointment. Upon moving in I had a few issues, but since they've all been corrected. Some included...cracked tile on the fireplace, burnt out light bulbs, broken window blind, refrigerator circuit malfunction (thank god they fixed this quickly, because if not all of my food would've have gone bad), AC problem, smoke detector battery dead, and squeaky door. Of course, I would've loved to move into a problem-free apartment, but I understand this is not a brand new place either. Thankfully, all of these problems were fixed within the first week and my apartment looked better then ever thereafter.
The layout in a one bedroom is a bid odd, I didn't know this until it was too late, but I made it work and I was able to fit a small dining set in the corner. I like the built-in desk next to the fire place because if it weren't for that I'd have no room for a real desk. The bedroom closet is spacious enough for a his/hers wardrobe, the coat and pantry closets are quite large as well. Additional storage on the balcony is a plus!
I like the exterior aesthetics of the building brick/ wood and its kept clean. A lot of other apartment developments in the area are have nice interiors, but the exterior is run-down. The grass and landscaping is neat, but I wouldn't recommend walking on it because people are always walking their dogs. I do not have a pet myself, but I don't mind that it's a pet friendly community.
Overall, I give this place a B , but then again I got a steal on rent, so maybe if I were paying a little more I'd be a harsher critic. As far as utilities, I haven t received my first bill, but I hope its not too much.
