Poor Quality

After much research in apartments in the area, I decided upon the Dacatur model here at Barton's Crossing. I moved in October and have been very disappointed since. I did read reviews on this site, but had the unwise notion that most people who would write a review are people who want to complain--which is what I had hoped anyway after seeing many poor reviews. I guess now I understand why.
The model that I chose was the renovated Decatur, which is higher in price due to upgrades; however, though the kitchen is upgraded with cheap faux granite, the rest of the apartment is completely lacking. Some of the fixtures are brass, some silver, some nickel. The carpet tears easily, and ALL of the light switches and other fixtures slightly askew. The blinds are old, dirty, and crooked, and the wood on the balcony loose and uneven. While it at first looks presentable, closer inspection indicates very cheap and quick construction, including the paint that is all over the place.
Upon moving in, the place was covered with dust and grime. My washer began leaking water within the first month. My dishwasher leaves dishes dirtier after "washing" them. My heater has just stopped working. I run out of hot water every time I take a shower. While I understand that not everything in an apartment is going to be perfect, this seems a bit much in just four short months.
I had read on here complaints about the noise level of neighbors and asked about that prior to moving in, to which the leasing office representative responded (of course) that she had never had a complaint about that. Well, let me tell you that everything you read is true! The walls are extremely thin, and my neighbors upstairs often sound like they are going to fall through my roof. It is intrusive in every way--be prepared to wake up early in the morning and kept up late at night to glasses rattling and pictures shaking from the noise. When calling the office (after two unreturned phone calls), I was told to go up there myself. '!'!
The grounds are not kept--our elevator button has been out for days, making the elevator unaccessable. There is garbage everywhere at the bottom of the hill, and even worse, dog droppings... everywhere! The hallways even smell like dog droppings.
On a positive note, the maintenance crew is very friendly and helpful (and busy!). I am honestly not usually a complainer, but for the price of this place I do want people to know what they are getting into before signing the lease. You can bet that I will be moving out as soon as my lease is up in October.

This is a accurate. I have been a resident of 3 years since I hate moving- the experience has been tolerable. The grounds are poorly kept and residents do not pick up after their dogs. I realize that the office cannot control the actions of their residents and I am a dog lover and owner myself- but I've never lived anywhere so completely littered by dog feces! The office staff is completely incompetent, while maintenence is friendly and usually pretty quick. The elevators are usually nonfunctioning at some point in the week. If you complain about noise, the office responds by stating that residents have complained about you! (noone could be quieter than myself and my dog) The apartments may appear decent but upon quick inspection you'll discover, as stated above- that everything is poorly constructed or cheap. That said, it's been liveable.

All of what I just read is very accurate. while the office staff if very friendly, they cannot do much to help with the poor quality of the place. I was living here when they decided to paint and change the appearance of the hallways. It looked nice before they painted. Now I feel like I'm walking into a funeral home. The paint is a horrid easter yellow and the paintings look like they are from a retirement community. Parking is very bad. I've been towed twice because I forgot to put up my hang tag for my second vehicle. I don't understand why they won't give us stickers for a second car like they do for our primary (below ground) parking vehicle. I believe Bartons Crossing gets a kick back from towed vehicles. The mail boxes are in poor repair. One box is always open with the tenants mail accessible to anyone who walks by. On numerous occations the mailman has neglected to properly latch the entire section of mail boxes making it possible to get into everyones mail. It seems to be a defect in the lock. They replaced one unit and it looks very cheap and doesn't match the other side.
