good for college students

This place is good for college students who are on their own for the first time. The price is okay, slightly high, but everything is included, which means you can leave everything on all the time:)(you will need to do that sometimes). The fixtures are older and so are the appliances. The heating and air conditioning is NOT controlled by you like it says in the brochure. The entire building works on a broiler and is only on when the staff turns it on. Every year I was really hot for about six months (3 in the spring and 3 in the fall). My animals suffered greatly and I had to leave about four fans on at all times.
My chief concern to those looking to rent is to stay away from this place if you have animals. It is hard to find a place around dc for this price that takes animals but the burden is not worth it.
New neighbors moved in about four months into my stay. They banged on my door, threw rocks at my balcony and harassed my dog. I had to keep him inside and housetrain him inside because the teasing was so bad. I complained several times and was told to write it down for them. Nothing ever happened and after several months of this the office staff got a complaint about me. Well, with one complaint to my name I was brought into their office for questioning. They reported that people were complaining about my dog barking. The office was quick to yell at me ad try and make my dog look like a violent creature, but were not quick to take any action against my neighbors. My neighbors actually complained about my dog barking at them through my glass door, when they themselves were in the process of teasing my dog. It was okay for them to tease my dog and then to complaint about it AND get somewhere with it, but complaining about my neighbors got me nowhere. The office took no responsibility in this and never did anything besides send out flyers every few months reminding tenants that the complex was ??animal friendly??. Those two years the only time my dog got to go outside was when I carried him to my car and took him to a park. He never got to go on the balcony and I never was able to open my glass door and use the screen door because of the teasing. He now suffers from severe anxiety issues and has to take medication. I have to groom him myself and sedate him for vet appointments because he was so traumatized by my neighbors (he was a puppy). My dog was not vicious; he??s a little Pomeranian for god sakes. The kids were horrible, the parents did not care and the staff did not try and help.
I was in a special building for people who own animals and still had this experience. I would not live here if I owned an animal. I would also not recommend this place for families. It is definitely only a place for single fresh out of college students.
The area is pretty safe. I never had any problems, but I also lived directly off of the main road and my area was well lit. Traffic is HORRIBLE. The complex is only a few miles from the Woodrow Wilson so getting home from work in DC took over an hour.
It is a catch; you may live in one of the buildings that have roaches and mice (my was not one of them), or bad neighbors (that was mine), you may get lucky and have no problems. If the hassle is worth it to you for the price then by all means live there, but if you find yourselves having problems with your neighbors I would start looking for a new place. The staff will report that they cannot do anything and may even try to evict you if you complain too much. That was what happened to me.
