For a place to live in Alexandria, this place is great. Hands down. The neighborhood is excellent. Quiet, with the excetpional fire truck and helicopter (it is on the military helicopter route to DC). I only had to call maintenance once for an issue, and they came over on a sunday and took care of it (leaky a/c unit). No major malfunctions in that I never had no water or heat/ac. I did have a patio unit, and that was a pretty sweet deal. Contrary to what others have written, I found the walls to be quite thick actually. The thick plaster made it hard to drive a nail into the wall even. You could hear your upstairs neighbor through the vent if you stood in the bathroom, but not in your apartment if you had the door closed. Any other noises were minimal at worst. After all, if you don't want to hear anybody ever, don't live in a city in an apartment building. Now the cons: Parking did suck on a number of occasions even though the lots were huge. In my lot (Van Dorn) there were many cars on Friday and Saturday nights without passes. Seemed like people were using the lot as a park and ride to Old Town, since in the morning, all the cars would be gone. They also did tow my car early one morning, due to a screw up in the office (took them two months to get a new pass after I sold my car). Office staff just threw their hands up and said sorry, but that was my fault for not reminding them. WHAT'!' After that, I avoided the office as much as possible. The guy who works there is reasonable, but the ladies are more than useless. Also, don't expect to see an apartment, even if the one your renting is vacant, they'll make some excuse not to show. Very odd. Finally if you live in the Van Dorn section DONT PARK ON THE STREET SIDE OF THE LOT. People drive way too fast down Van Dorn and I've seen several cars, including my own, get totaled while parked in the lot by people loosing control of their car going around the turn. Almost always people from "south" of the neighborhood and always a hit and run too. So, if you don't think you'll have much need for the office staff, and don't mind the minor vagrencies of living in an apartment building and your willing to pay the rent (mine went up $100 in one year, which is why I left) then this is a good place. The neighborhood, the park, Old Town, the Bradlee mall and safeway gives you all you'll need and want.
