Can't complain. . .

Granted, I have only lived at Brookdale Apartments for the past six months, but to date I have not had a negative experience.
Here's what I can share:
Parking rules are strict, but clear. If you do not have a parking sticker you will be towed. To receive parking for guests you need only go by the office during business hours and request a temporary pass. While this is sometimes a pain, it's a good idea because in Brookdale you typically have many extended family members living in one apartment. If this were not enforced you'd have tons of people fighting over a litmited number of spaces. The pass is good for 2 1/2 days and I have never had any problem receiving one. The staff have also always been courteous and professional.
The cost of living in Alexandria is outrageous, but the $825 you pay for a one bedroom at Brookdale is quite reasonable in comparison to the cost of other apartment communities.
My apartment is very spacious, w/ plenty of cabinet and closet room. My only complaints would be that there are no electrical outlets in the bathroom and the cable hook-up is in the dining area, requiring one to run a line to the living room.
The hallways and laundry facilities could be cleaner, but I blame that more on the tentants, who seem to prefer throwing their junk mail and dryer lint on the floor rather than carrying it two feet to the trash.
In terms of maintenance. In the past six months, I've had someone come by twice to perform preventative maintenance to the air conditioner. They always have given notice as to when they would be entering the apartment. I also had to call to have someone snake my toilet drain (a problem resulting through my own fault) and someone was there within two hours.
Overall, I'm very satisfied w/ my apartment and the service I've received. It's not the nicest, most attractive community in the area - but it's affordable and only about five minutes from three grocery stores, an elementary school, the Alexandria Rec Center, and Interstate 395.
Mark Center (the property mngt. group) also offers free services to residents such as English as Second Language Classes, Weekly movies, holiday luncheon's, etc.
