Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
My problems at Brookdale began right from the start. Thanks to the horrible rental office, I arrived on my move-in day to find that my apartment was still being renovated from the last tenants. I've only encountered one rental agent (who has since left) who was competent. It's not worth bothering with the others.
The parking situation is problematic, although they have recently given each apartment a permanent guest pass. The temporary guest passes were a headache for people who actually work during the day since the rental office is never open in the evenings. My car was vandalized once and hit once while parked in their parking lots. My roommate's car was also vandalized.
The walls are paper-thin and you hear everything - the other apartments, the stairwells, outside. There are lots and lots of children in the complex (and at the school next door) and they tend to make a horrendous amount of noise. My floor and walls vibrate frequently thanks to my neighbors music.
The fitness center is not worth bothering with. The laundry facilities are overcrowded (3 washers, 2 dryers) and people are inconsiderate.
Also, the commute is pretty bad if you work in DC. It's a 20 minute bus ride to the Pentagon metro station and then into the city.
