A horrible place, especially for single women

Nothing about this complex is good. I had problems from the beginning. I should have been weary when the office would not show me the exact apartment, but a model instead. But I was single, desperate for a place and not familiar with the area.
When I arrived to move in, driving from out of state, I was told that my apartment would not be ready. Instead, I was put in a guest house, but not given any storage for my truck full of belongings. When I did move in, four days later, my apartment was FILLED with bugs of all kinds. They sprayed and bombed, but nothing worked. From Day One until the day I moved out, I had bugs and roaches. (And I actually became ill from the level of toxins in the apartment building.) A maintanence person later told me that prior to my moving in, the apartment was infested to the point that no one had lived in it for a year! They were putting down carpet to cover the visible floor damage and that was why I couldn?t see it or move in on time.
Secondly my neighbors were quite noisy, dirty and sketchy. One couple had frequent physical domestic disputes. Two of my male neighbors would approach me for dates or whistle when I would leave on weekend evenings or even when coming home from work in the afternoon. The sidewalks leading to my building, which faced the woods, were not lighted at night. And there was often a garbage overflow into the parking lot. The rental office once issued a memo to residents asking that children not play in the garbage. Can you believe that''
Finally the office was rude and unpleasant about everything. Even worse, they were more indignant with and even antagonized those who had trouble speaking English. Hardly something to be proud of.
Utilities were a nightmare. Water was billed by square footage of apartment, not metered. So that meant that my next-door neighbor, his wife and four children paid the same that I did living alone. I also got billed for three months after I moved out for the water that the next resident was using. This was because someone at Brookdale forgot to inform NW&P that I moved out. (So they didn?t have to actually shut off/turn on the water with each new resident, NW&P required notification from the rental office, not the resident, when people move out).
I could go on, but suffice to say this isn?t a place you?d want to live in. You can find something better, no doubt. And if you must live here, sign a six-month and get out ASAP. It?s not safe, people are very rude and the rent is way too much for what you are getting. It?s not even close to a Metro stop.
PS--A friend lived at another Mark Winkler complex and had a similar experience.
