In the past two years of living here we are constantly amazed at the lack of respect the company (managment staff which are managed by Dreyfuss) offers its residents.I'm sure they are nice people individually. It is the business practices that lead one to believe that their care overall is lacking. My situation unfortunately, dictates that we stay. Thankfully, not for to much longer.
It is like this, the townhomes are not so bad a place to live that one would immediately flee. It's the overall experience that wears you down. It's the asking for maintence and even having them come but, not fixing what you ask. It's discovering that your basement floods in strong rains. It's in the lack of care or even concern the office staff give. So while Brookville is livable, the net effect is...is it really worth it' At this point I've had my fill and look forward to greener pastures.
Our basement has flooded 4 times. After the most recent flood, where our pump failed, we were informed first that "they (the company) take no responsibility." This response pretty much dictates their view. Brookville is in it for themselves. They seem to prefer the short term gain rather than really seek out the best for their homes. Another issue is that the basement is included in the space dimensions. The question becomes, what is the value of rented space if your things are ruined keeping them there' In the recent major flooding in DC something like 47 units had standing water. Now obviously, Brookville can't be responsible for major flooding but, the fact that it happens should be considered by any potential renter. Remember though that at least one unit, mine (and I imagine more) floods even in strong rains.
The windows are drafty. Winter heating bills can be incredibly exhorbent. Again when I went to ask what could be done, I was told that "everybody's bills were high". To combat this last winter I put up plastic sheeting to try and keep some of the heat in. I did it myself because after being rebuked by the office I did not think it was worth the aggravation to have them do something about it. Again, the place simply wears on you. I'm not alone here. Other negative reviews about Brookville talk about these same issues.
The bottom line is that they have a real lack of respect for the residents and take minimal care of the units they run. While I was getting my basement pumped out I was told by one of the maintenence men that there were trees growing in the gutters because they have been rarely cleaned. Now to be fair they have since cleaned the gutters but, if the strategy is wait till tree's are growing in the gutters to clean them, imagine what else goes unnoticed.
Overall review...negative.

I would like to say that it is unfortunate that you feel that way, but I have to tell you I have been living here my self for 8 years in 2 different homes on the property with basements and have never suffered any floods. I know that the recent rains brought alot of floods to alot of homes on the property and through out the city of Alexandria, and it is not that we don't care about your personal situation but we were overwhelmed that week and were doing the best we could to take care of everyone who suffered. I am sorry if it seemed as though we didn't care but that is not a reflection of Dreyfuss or this property. |

Maintenance can be frustrating I agree. Some guys who came to fix some of our problems couldn't speak english so we couldn't even explain the situation so no repairs were made.

It is my strong opinion that the management should do something to finally fix the issue with flooding, not everyone can afford to loose their personal belongings. If the basements can not be fixed you should take some kind of responsibility, after all it is your property you should be held liable. I realize that Brookville is in business to make money, but at the same time it is worth taking good care of the units in order to keep residents from moving away or spreading the word out (negative word of mouth is bad for business). |

I lived there in 2006 and what a mistake that was!!! The first day we moved in the plate glass window was cracked and an electrical plug was hanging out of the wall with the wires exposed as well a dirty sink. It was apparent from when we moved in nobody inspected the apartment. Management was another disappoiment especially the asst manager at the time. We would ask for things to be repaired and we always received an attitude. It was funny how condescending they became after we moved in. The staff was all about hospitality and service when you are looking but as soon as you signed the lease, their tone changed and the living environment they sell you on quickly fades. Bottom line; the apartment is extremely overpriced, the bathrooms were so small, especially the one downstairs off the kitchen. Everytime my wife used her hairdryer we would lose power and their response was it is an old property and it would require major construction to fix the problem. So anyone considering moving in consider all of your options, their are alot better properties in the area and maybe even cheaper. This wasn't even close to being worth the $1400.00 they were charging. If the service outweighed the tired and rundown property it could justify the rental fee but both service and property were on the same level...Terrible! The management company should sell the whole property and build new town homes.
