Building got new owners and new management in August 2006. Some of the problems seem to stem from the old owners (cheap fixtures and appliances that constantly break, etc.) and it remains to be seen how much better the new ones are. The new people are at least MUCH more responsive to complaints-- for example, they put a new lock on the basement door within two days of when I asked them to. The building is also scheduled to have a major renovation in a few years-- so you could end up getting shuffled into to a new apartment after a year or two, but you might also get a good deal on a refurbished place (it's rent-controlled). Cockroaches are still a big problem as of Nov 2006, even though they had exterminators come and do the entire building in October. These are affordable, good-sized apartments in a GREAT neighborhood, but you can't be squeamish about bugs (or pesticides!)
