My family and I spent four years at Foxchase with the same 2br, 2bth apt. When we moved in our starting rent was $1279, and by the time we declined to renew our lease, we were paying $1420 with the rent expected to go up to $1499 on the next term.
For that price, we simply didn't feel like Foxchase was a good value anymore. Here are some the reasons you should think twice about Foxchase, or any property owned and managed by Aimco.
Cleanliness - or lack thereof
My wife is a cleanliness freak, and Foxchase fails the cleanliness test bigtime. In our building, there was pretty heavy turnover, and each time a resident moved out, we'd find their roaches in our place. For several years, we had to pay out of pocket to Orkin and come and exterminate. Foxchase's in-house exterminators were totally incompetent and ineffective. Just add the extermination bill to your rent...because you'll need it.
The grounds around the apartments were very poorly maintained....once a year the mulchers would show up throw some mulch around the trees, trim some bushes, mow what was left of the lawn and then call it a day.
The stairwell to the apartment in our building smelled and was filthy with garbage, spilled food, and other sticky crap I don't even want to guess the origin of of. One time my wife found human blood on the walls and after repeated calls to management to send someone, had to go clean it up herself.
The in-building laundry room had two washers and two dryers. The room generally was very filthy and so were the machines. It was $1.50 per load each on the washer and dryer. Several times the washers broke down and took several days to be repaired. Often the neighbors would leave loads of wet laundry in machines for days and were generally very unconscientous when it came to remomving their stuff so you get a load in.
Customer Service
In a word...horrid. The people at the office are rude and difficult to communicate with...when you can reach them. The people they send over to fix things are poorly mannered and often refuse to take off their shoes when entering your place.
We took very good care of our place, and put in work orders whenever things broke or needed replacing. We also put in considerable effort to leave the walls pathed and place clean when we left. But I wasn't surprised when I learned that Foxchase had decided to not return our security deposit and had the additional gall to charge us an additional $50 for unspecified damages.
Neighbors
By and large we liked our neighbors and became good friends with several of them. However, we had several Section 8 tenants in our building whom we made the mistake of helping out a few times. This quickly escalated into a situation where they would be at your door every other day asking for stuff. We eventually (and politely) let them know that we were not a charity.
Safety
When we arrived in 2002, things really weren't that bad. There was a park near our apartment where local youths would go to make out, drink or do drugs, but the cops cracked down on them and it ceased to be a problem. My impression of the area was that it was generally safe. That impression got progressively worse over time though. We got one of our bikes stolen from our third floor balcony and my wife was accosted numerous times by local men asking her out or making catcalls. Thankfully her physical safety was never compromised.

Anonymous- I sympathize with your wife, (I am a neat freak too..lol). I have had to clean the hallway once or twice, due to filth, smell etc.
And, I agree on most of your points except the neighbors- we have liked the majority of them and, so far, have had good experiences. As for landscaping, and the lack thereof, I DEFINITELY agree. Lol.
