I was really suprised when I read these reviews. I guess you have to figure people who take time to write are really angry about something. I was looking at reviews of other property and was just curious what I'd find out about Foxchase. I have been living here for three years and LOVE it. I've lived in many other places and am happy to have settled here. I do think the location of your apartment matters. Regardless of location though, I don't find the neighborhood at all "scary" and found it very strange that others do. I've never heard of any car thefts/break-ins or any other crime.

I have always found maintenence to be helpful and like that they usually just replace things rather than fix. I've never had or heard of rodent problems either like the other reviews suggest.

The only down side I can see is that the Property Mangers are a pain and unresponsive/unhelpful or at least Joanna is. I use the shuttle every day and that can be a bit chaotic. If you don't get picked up at the first or second stop, it is possible you won't get a ride as the shuttle fills up. I always feel bad for those we leave behind.

The pool and workout centers are awesome. Really, I'm just confused by the reviews. I love the place!

I lived in Foxchase prior to the upgrade of the shopping mall. Where the popping Harris Tweeter's is now located, there was a very rundown and gritty McGuader's next to a porno theater(I'm not making this up). I left Foxchase after they opened the place to welfare folks (Section Eight) I was writing a check for rent every month when these folks were living next door for free. Theory is that those who work will bring them up to an acceptable level of social interaction. Not so, from my experience ten to twenty percent welfare types can spin the commmunity into a whole different direction. They bring down the area. Learned that after the second time UPS delivery was stolen. Hope things have changed but might want to consider mailing inbounds to a secure location. Driving through the area during working hours, always see a lot of very interesting people wandering around while the young, nose in the air yuppie's and the defeated divorced but still have to go on with my life types are at work. That is the bulk of the non-section eight folks that lived in Foxchase when I lived there 2001-2005. I still see who I believe is the best Dentist in Virginia whose practice is still in the Foxchase mall. So I drive through Foxchase every six months and get an update of the area. As of 2008, still looks drab and the same type of interesting folks are standing on the corners. One thing to be aware when looking at Foxchase. Utilites are through the roof. When I lived there, 2001-2004, utilites were equal to 20% of my rent. Bottom line, check out other areas before you commit.
