TERRIBLE APARTMENT

In December 2008, I will have been at Foxchase for 2 years. I do not plan on renewing my lease!! Don't rent there; it's not worth it
I keep my apartment very clean, but still have problems with roaches. I'm sure they have infested the entire complex and are living in the walls. I spray every week and still cannot get rid of them.
Also, they will tow your car without warning! I rented a car for businesss during the week and came home late Sunday night. There were no parking spots on the street near my apartment, but I was lucky to find a parking spot in the parking lot next to my building (someone must have just pulled out), so I parked there. When I woke up at 6:00am Monday to return the rental car, it was gone! The Fox chase slum lords contract with a sleazy towing company that patrols the area periodically looking for cars without FoxChase parking sticker so they can tow them. It cost me $125 to get my car out of the towing company lot. I plan on reporting Foxchase to the BBB and sue them in court for the cost of the tow.
You would think the apartment complex would change their policy and only tow vehicles if they are complaints. I mean what if you have an unexpected guest over late one night and when they get ready to go, their car is towed. What great customer service

Foxchase sucks - that's clear. But choose your battles. You have no case. Watch an episode of Judge Judy or something. A rule is a rule. You don't win something because of what the policy should be. I certainly agree with you though on the parking. I have a lot of friends who live in apartment complexes. They get a parking permit for their car and then also have a spare for when a friend comes over. They even do that with single family homes, especially in North Arlington. You can't park on the street if you don't live there because they don't want commuters parking in the neighborhoods. The town gives homeowners a parking pass for company. It's not a crazy idea, it's just that FC is run so god-forsaken ass-backwards, they don't understand simple concepts.
You really will get nowhere on taking them to court on this. Try something like your asthma symptoms were greatly increased because of the extensive roach droppings that your were breathing in. Sorry if you don't have asthma, should have planned ahead before moving out. I know I am. |

The reason there are parking stickers is so your car won't get towed since the lots are reserved for residents. Otherwise, anyone could park in the lots and take up spots reserved for the residents. This would probably not hold up in court since they would say you should have known you needed a parking permit to park in the lot over night. Most people realize this.

I understand your point, but when you are told at the last minute by your boss you need to travel on business and it's late in the evening when all the offices are closed, there is no way to get a temporary sticker. And when your get back from your business trip and it's late on Sunday night, and all the offices are closed, how do you suggest one would get a temporary sticker? I would like to hear this one.
The parking policy needs to be rewritten and have provisions for situations like the one I have described. I understand Foxchase does not want people parking in their lot who are not tenants, but please tell me how you would address the occasional guest who comes to visit unannounced and there are no parking spaces on the street (which is usually the case late in the evening). Do you feel it ok to tow their vehicle? Wow! That's really great customer service and an outstanding marketing campaign.
The bottom line is Foxchase apartments are not a very customer-centric organization and the complex is very poorly managed. And if the management there is willing to pay 100s or 1000s of dollars in attorney fees to enforce a policy that is flawed at best, well that's up to them. I wonder what executive management would say about that business decision: spending 1000s of dollars in attorney fees to save Foxchase $125 in towing costs. Remind me never to have you invest my money.
Regarding the law suit, well that will be decided by the court. And if I am not happy with the verdict from the lower courts, I intend on bringing it all the way up to the US Supreme Court.

I rarely have problems finding a parking space near my Foxchase apartment. If the lots are full, there's usually ample street parking. Frankly, I'm glad that Foxchase tows the cars without the stickers or else I'd never have a space near my apartment. Sorry about your luck but it was a poor decision to park in the lot without the sticker.

I always had my guests park on Howard St. because it was right next to me. I really don't think the US Supreme Court is going to care that your car got towed. Rules are rules.

Foxchase does indeed suck but you really should not have park your car (any car) without a sticker.
Sorry for your unfortunate luck though.

The same thing happened to my fiance at foxchase about 4 months ago. He had to take his company truck home for the evening (it was too wide to park on the street)--and when he got home, he was lucky enough to find a spot in our lot by the building. Being a responsible renter (though we thought) he tried to call the admin. office (at around 4:50PM mind you--before closing time) and no answer. All he wanted to do was let them know that this car would be here bla bla bla. He was then forced to write a handwritten note in the window because he couldn't get through to the office...And alas--the next morning at 5:30 AM--the car had been towed. He called admin numerous times to complain and nothing was solved. We have lived here almost 2 years, and when our lease is up--we're out of here.
