The good thing about Foxchase is that it is near USPTO (Patent and Trademark). Other than that, I am counting the months until my lease is up.

Security is an issue. Cost is an issue. Heat is an issue. Parking is an issue.

A lot of Section 8 housing here - hence not secure.

Since I moved in, they also now charge for the shuttle bus to the metro. Foxchase is cheap as an apartment with a shuttlebus to the metro, but without one it is far too long to walk.

Agreed. It is very unsafe. About the only thing good about it is the location close to metro and Old Town.

Prejudice statement - section 8 warrants insecure buildings. I wouldn't rate my experience based on other's financial wows; those that receive section 8 don't neccessarly warrant unliveable conditions. Very prejudiced statement!! I have lived here for 2 years, and though it is no Ritz, it's safe, quiet, and liveable. My neighbors are friendly and quiet. I moved here from a place where $1000 a month would buy you a mansion. Living this close to DC the price is priced reasonable for what it offers. If you want better amenities, upgraded kitchens and bathrooms, then it will cost more money. The shuttle service to the Metro is free again. Parking can be tricky!

It is safe. Use your common sense, As for the shuttle, it is free. Try finding a cheaper apartment anywhere in Alexandria with decent fitness centers, clean pools, tennis courts, 15 mintutes to DC, under 1000 monthly. DOES NOT EXIST!

What happened to you to say security is an issue? And how much was your apartment? There are a few gated communities in Alexandria I know of but judging from your statmeent they must have been TOO EXPENSIVE FOR YOU. What is the patent office paying people now? Peanuts?
