Not the Greatest, Not the Worst

Let me start by saying that I've lived all around the world due to being a military brat, so I know that there are some really crappy places to live. Foxchase is... well... in between.
Positives:
-The staff at the office is really friendly and have always been very courteous.
-The location is right near Duke St. with plenty to do and easy access to 395
-We have never had a break in, or our car towed
-It's a quiet neighbor hood- never had to call the cops for noise issues
-The stairwells are always clean (Maids come and clean every day)
-DURING THE DAY there is plenty of parking
-The fitness centers are all very nice, with newer equipment and kept rather clean
-There is a washer drying in my apartment as well as a laundry room on the bottom floor
-My fiance has really bad credit, but thankfully Foxchase works with the Military Set-Aside program and we were able to get the apartment (Not all places work with you!)

Negatives:
-Parking is a freaking nightmare!
-We live on Raleigh, close to N. Jordan. If you come home after 5 p.m. good luck getting a parking spot on the street! I've had to park all the way up on Taney Ave. and walk back down the street.
-The price is high for the size apartment we have.
- We have a one bedroom and pay about $1100 a month and there is less than 600 sq. ft. I feel like a sardine sometimes!!! Plus that doesn't include any of the utilities!
-Maintenance Men come in without notifying me
-On more than one occasion the maintenance men have come into my apartment without knocking, just came in and then acted all surprised that I was home. I NEVER allow a pass-key (permission to enter my apartment when I'm not home)! One morning after my fiance went to work, I was asleep in my bed and I was nude. ;) Well I slept like a rock and when I woke up, I walked into the kitchen to get a drink and I noticed the little blue card on the counter top. The maintenance man had entered my apartment without knocking or announcing his presence, and more importantly without my permission! As you can imagine I was VERY unsettled. I have no idea if the maintenance man took pictures of me on his cell phone or what, but i was CREEPED OUT!!! Sometimes it takes them more than 24 hours to come out and fix little things like changing light bulbs and what not.
-ROACHES!!!
- I don't know about you but I have an EXTREME and irrational fear of ---- roaches. The thought makes my skin crawl. Well when we first moved into our apartment we had a spider problem in our shower that was resolved promptly. Then a few months later, somebody moved into our building and brought ---- roaches with them! I couldn't go in the kitchen without seeing like 4 or 5 of them on the counter. They were in the bathroom too, and no matter how hard I clean, I could not get rid of them. I called for the extermination and nobody ever came out- it got so bad I had to move in with my parents for a week while my fiance did a complete and very thorough spray down of our place. I have not seen a roach since then but every time I turn the light on in the kitchen or bathroom I still do a quick scan to make sure that our "pets" have not returned!
-There is no lighting in the apartment
-When you walk into the apartment there is a light switch right by the door- it turns on the electrical outlet. Total there are 4 lights in the whole apartment. One where the dining room is suppose to be (that's the main light), one in the bathroom; one in front of the mirrors in the bedroom (very dim) and one in the kitchen (very dim). As an artist, there is never enough light in my apartment and it drives me INSANE!! Especially when the main light goes out and maintenance doesn't come out to fix it.
-The sun rises right into the bedroom
-I suppose this depends on what side of the building you get an apartment on, but we were so unlucky to get one where the sun rises into my bedroom, prohibiting me from sleeping past 10 (yeah I know I'm lazy but if I don't have to work then I want to sleep in!).
-There is not a lot of storage space
-One closet is so not enough for me AND my fiance. Not to mention the bathroom has no storage either (cuz I'm a girl who has LOTS of make up and what not).
-The cabinets in the kitchen are a joke
-You can't fit a box of cake mix standing up in the cabinets because the shelves are placed all messed up. Not to mention that there are really only 7 whole cabinets to fit all your dishes, glasses, storage and food in... not enough space at all!! Counter space is good if you set up it up right.
-Cable Confusion
-We were told by Foxchase that Comcast serviced us, however when we called Comcast they said that they did not service our particular building... so we settled on Verizon and ended up paying WAYYY to much for crappy service. Then six months later we see a Comcast guy hooking up cable for one of our neighbors.... What the hell' Finally after arguing with the people at Comcast they agreed that they serviced our building and came out and hooked us up- a little too late! Just a pain in the butt!

But apart from those negative things, I have enjoyed being able to live so close to my parents and my new baby niece. The building we live in seems structurally sound and when we first moved in I was really excited to have my own place for the first time. But now a year later I am looking forward to moving to a bigger apartment to get ready for our baby. Not to mention that I hate living in one place for too long (just cuz I have moved around so much) So all in all, Foxchase really isn't horrible- I just had a few bad experiences that would prevent me from renewing my lease. If your considering Foxchase, do that keep considering it, and TALK about it (if your moving in with someone else)- even if you have to come back 5 times to look at model apartment to make sure your going to be comfortable living here!

I agree with the size of the 1 bedrooms, I can imagine it's like living in a sardine can. My husband and I toured the apartments there, the 1 bedrooms were quite small.
