Godforsaken Housing

The best thing I can say about my experience with Foxchase is that I had the forethought to sign a 6 month, rather than a year long, lease- and even 6 months here proved too daunting a task. Starting with the worst problem, our apartment flooded 3 (yes 3) separate times in two months. Each time we had to call emergency maintenance (because the flooding started early in the morning), and then had to drive to the maintenance office to get the men to actually come fix the problem. Each time, the management seemed completely unaware of the problem, and it was like pulling teeth trying to get information about what had cause the flooding and what they were going to do to remedy it. After the third time, when we wanted to inform management that we would be moving out of the apartment a month early, because the constant flooding and persistent cockroach infestations made the experience utterly unbearable, the only person in management who had the authority to talk to us on the issue (Arun) refused to do so.
The first flooding occurred because (so we were told) the water main in the apartment above us broke. Though our carpet was soaked in places (to the point where water splashed up if you stepped on it), all maintenance did to fix the problem was try to suck up some water and then put industrial blowers on the floor... which dried our carpet in about 4 days... but stayed in our apartment for weeks after that. Management was reluctant to even talk to us about the issue, and we never really did get the whole story.
The second two floodings occurred on consecutive days. The first day, maintenance told us it was a clogged drain, making it sound like rain water backed up and flooded our apartment. We tried to call Arun, we were told he was on a conference call, and so we left a voicemail. We also sent him an email about the same time that day. He responded to neither.
That night maintenance left our apartment in utter disrepair, with the carpets torn up, industrial blowers beneath them (making it very difficult to navigate the apartment), half the padding from below carpet gone, and all of our belongings crammed into the couple of dry spaces left in the apartment. Management ignored this horrible situation entirely.
The next morning when our apartment flooded yet again (though maintenance had supposedly fixed the problem the day before), we pressed maintenance for information, and they finally told us that it was septic water from a clogged pipe, not the more benign rain water we had been led to believe, making it a serious health hazard. We went to the management office as soon as it opened, to try to talk with Arun to tell him we were fed up and were going to move out a month early, and we were told he had not yet arrived for the day, but that they would have him get into contact with us as soon as he got in. Two hours later, we still had not heard from him, so we called the office, and we were told that he was showing model apartments to potential tenants and they did not know when he would possibly have time to meet with us. That's right, he was unable to help us deal with the fact that our apartment had been flooded for two consecutive days because he was working on leasing out more of these awful apartments to unsuspecting people. How's that for irony'
As maintenance was replacing our entire carpet that second day, they decided all of our things were in their way (admittedly, they were in a tough situation as the apartment is tiny and we have a lot of things), so they chose to move most of our things into the laundry room across the hall and right into the hallway itself while they did so. They didn't lock the laundry room door- in fact they didn't even bother shutting it. They also had the front door to the apartment building propped open, exposing all of our belongings to a very unsafe environment. When they were done recarpeting, they put everything back into the apartment, void of any apparent rhyme or reason, and after an extremely long two days trying to deal with a flooding apartment and being completely and intentionally ignored by management, we then had to try to clean our apartment enough that we could find our bed for the night. Utter nightmare.
Cockroaches were also a huge problem in this apartment. We made repeated complaints, and though they would send someone out within the week to come spray and we meticulously cleaned up every scrap of food after each meal, we never saw relief from these beasts.
Also on the general list of complaints (admittedly much further down the list than those expounded upon above), there was no dehumidifier in the bathroom, the lighting in the apartment (aside from the lamps we bought our selves to help assuage the problem) was horrible- in very poor locations and not very helpful, and there were all sorts of gaps and holes between the floor and the walls.
All in all, I think it's safe to say that there is no one on Earth whom I hate enough that I would recommend they live at Foxchase.

Could not agree more. Made the mistake of renting over the internet when I had to move quickly to DC after 911. Poor customer service. Huge utility bills. Learned quickly that any package sent to your door would be stolen. Management tries to go after you even when you leave. Their reason for my moving out, "Money Problems" Never missed a rent payment and of course, never had a response to my letter of protest.

Seems like most people on here complain because they were too cheap and decided not to pay their rent. My best advice: Read your lease before you sign it.Everything is there- fees, procedures, etc. And if you are not paying your rent, it even states the procedure for an eviction. The state of Virginia usually takes over three months to legally evict someone so if you aren't paying your rent, you have some time. When you don't care about your housing you go for the cheapest apartment out there- anything on a ground level will have those water bugs, camel crickets and flooding problems. Why blame youe cheap mistake on management???Use common sense. If you cared about the things you stated, possible flooding, bugs atracted to moisture, space, you should have chose a larger apartment off the ground level. I am sorry about your money problems but everyone is going through a tough time now but a place to rest your head is on most people's prority list. Rent first, Gucci later!

Why would you apply a blanket response to everyone? I rented here because my friends rented here back in the early 90s and it was convenient to many things in the area. I don't recall mentioning money problems, nor have I ever been late with any bills or rent. And by the way, the rent here is not cheap. I also had to move here quick from out of state. I do not live on a ground floor apartment, yes I still get the bugs (which you can also see swarming by the pools at night outside - Roaches and Crickets). I pay extra to be on a higher floor and the bugs still come in. More proactive pest control can solve this. The place is a dump pure and simple. I've rented for most of my life and have never experienced anything as bad as this place. You sound like someone who works here and is posting in stealth mode.
