I always believe in providing feedback, whether it's good or bad. I have picked up the phone to complain about a business a few times, so when a company/business does something right, I take the time to acknowledge that too. In this case, Glebe House deserves some praise.
I have a been a resident of Glebe House for only half a year, but I am convinced that I will stay here for at least a few years. Let me tell you why.
The value of Glebe House is outstanding. For the price, you get a good apartment, including utilities, and a helpful staff that really does put the tenant first. There was recently a small leak above my shower, and the maintenance team fixed it the next day while I was at work.
The location is great! I didn't really look around when I first started living here, but after some discovery I've realized that I'm in the middle of it all! Glebe House is right between 395 and Route 1. Potomac Yard shopping center is right around the corner. You are about 5 minutes north of Old Town and about 10 minutes south of Crystal City. There is a bus stop on the corner and I believe (haven't been there yet) there's a metro station down Mt. Vernon. If you're into music, the legendary Birchmere is within walking distance! Pentagon City mall is a short drive away as well. The neighborhood is not the greatest (I carry a gun when I walk around), but there are plenty of police officers patrolling the area. I actually talked to a few of the cops and they told me that cleaning up the crime in this area has been a goal for the PD this year.
I find the comment about the staff being nosy really hard to believe, but I will concede that I wasn't around for any of that. I can tell you that the staff really try to make you feel like a part of the family. They all know me by name and are always on for a good conversation if you want one. They work with you if give them the opportunity; they allowed me to keep a pet bird even though the lease technically says only cats are allowed.
I am in a studio apartment and I think there's plenty space. There's also a coat closet and a walk-in closet. The bathroom and kitchen are a bit on the small side, but I've been able to adjust.
I have yet to see any kinds of bugs or roaches. Like previously mentioned, there is a free pest service if you see one. The management is actually pro-active about pests; they did a preemptive service a few weeks ago and will be back in a few months. They explained to me that they are doing it by sections, so that the neighbors above and below are getting serviced at the same time you're getting serviced.
Parking is limited; if you aren't home by a certain time the spots are usually taken up. There is plenty of parking along the front of the complex so you're not totally left out. You just can't park there between 9am-5pm, but during these times there's usually plenty of parking for you to bring your car back into the parking lot.
The neighbors usually keep to themselves, but I've talked to most of the ones directly around my apartment. The community room usually has a few people hanging out in there and I've gotten directions from them on a few occasions. There's a tv in there and it's not uncommon for people to watch tv together while they're doing their laundry (the machines in building 25 are in the community room). Speaking of the community room, there's two computers and a wireless network that isn't too bad. I live on the second floor and get a decent signal.
The place seems pretty secure. The entrance doors, as well as individual apartment doors, have electronic locks on them. I've never seen anyone messing with the cars in the parking lot or anything like that (I do watch through the window as I like to keep an eye on my car). The management gives ample notice when they need to enter your apartment and they escort anyone from an outside company that may be doing maintenance in your apartment.
Inside your apartment you won't hear any noise from your neighbors. I mean zero. I did hear my upstairs neighbor walking around pretty hard one day, but they came down to apologize and tell me that they were moving something. I've never heard a peep out of the two neighbors on opposite sides of me. With that being said, the front doors don't block any sound. When you walk down the hall way you can hear EVERYTHING that's going on. I think it's a nosy person's paradise to be honest, but I am never really loud about anything.
Overall, I think this is a great place to live. If you like to get out and have a good time, you're in a good location to do it. There is a great value here with having utilities and cable included. And the staff, in my opinion, are top notch.

oh please. just because mgmt is always on for a conversation does not make up for the bugs -- yes, bugs, everywhere, the chain smoking office staff that may always be on for a conversation, but if you don't have time for a conversation, they get offended, and the paper thin walls and uncarpeted floors that let all the noise through and it's luck of the draw if the guy upstairs is up all night. good price, yes. quiet. no. bug free, no. pleasant staff if you don't constantly engage in their conversations, no.

(I carry a gun when I walk around)
PLEASE TELL ME WHO YOU ARE! I HAVE LIVED AT GLEBE HOUSE FOR SEVEN YEARS, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO LEAVE, AS CONDOS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD START AT 800K.
WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU CARRYING A GUN? THE STREETS, SIDEWALKS, TRAILS, AND PARKING LOTS ARE OVERRUN WITH POLICE AND SHERIFF! I HAVE CALLED THE POLICE ABOUT RICH WHITE SUBURBANITES DRINKING BEER AT THE PUBLIC SOCCER FIELD AND THE POLICE DRIVE UP IN TWO MINUTES. I KNEW A WOMAN WHO CALLED ABOUT A MAN SLEEPING ON A NEARBY BUS STOP BENCH, AND THREE POLICE CARS SHOWED UP IN ONE MINUTE. IF I SEE YOU WITH A GUN I AM GOING TO CALL THE POLICE ON YOU!
BY THE WAY, THERE'S NO NEARBY TRAIN STATION. UNLESS YOU ARE INTO A 35-MINUTE 2 MILE HIKE."
AGREED THAT PARKING IS A PAIN.

I'm allowed to carry a gun when I walk around. I have a Concealed Handgun permit issued by the state of Virginia. Besides, Virginia is one of the most gun-friendly states in the country; anyone can own a gun without registering it. I can give you a gun, and you can wear that gun on your hip (as long as it isn't concealed or hidden and viewable from three different angles) without registering it or anything. That's why I carry a gun; there are so many people with guns, I'm not going to get caught unarmed!
So, call the cops if you want to, and I'll show you and them my permit.

That's comforting...
