My lease is almost up. I'm seriously thinking about moving from the Halstead. I haven't had many problems with the management like in previous psotings. The apartment and the building itself is a nice looking place. It is TRUE that it has had water issues. It's true that there was no hot water on SEVERAL ocassions. I haven't had a problem with the hot water for a while to be fair (since January). However, I still seem to get rust deposits in my bath tub or from the tap. The management people have told me to run the water for about 15 minutes to clean the lines. This is what they also recommended that I do when I had no hot water. I later found out that the hot water mechanism was defective. What was this mumbo jumbo about running the water for 15 minutes' One of the reasons I moved here was because I was wowed by the amenities. The amenities aren't as great as they seem. For instance, the hot tub could not be turned on for most of last summer. The lifegaurd had mentioned that the hot tub was broken. It was broken for a while. The lifegaurd said to speak with the management. I never got a straight answer from the management either. I'm just hoping that it will be fixed when the pool area opens up. The pool area has a deck with a nice view of DC, but I din't know that they closed off the deck after the summer ended. I was sold on the appearance of free morning papers and continental-style breakfast. All of the newspapers and munchies are gone by the time I get to the 15th floor where most the ammenities are located. I've witnessed a bunch of kids taking all of the food from the coffee bar area when I was home on a weekend morning. They littered the clubhouse and their parents were nowhere in sight. I've also witnessed people stealing creamers. How pathetic. I've seen people filling large containers with coffee. The bright side is that there is free Starbucks coffee. The hot chocolate is always out, never any newspapers, and never any morning pastries. That's what I was promised when I came for a visit while looking for an apartment. I can't even get a cellphone reception in the apartment. You don't realize certain things until after you move-in. I didn't know the area very well when I moved to the Halstead. It really isn't an ideal location if you work in Washington, DC. I didn't need the metro when I originally moved in, but I have since changed jobs. My office is in the city near McPherson Square. I've been taking the shuttle/metro combo to work. It can be a little draining over time. My commute time can be almost an hour or more depending on the day. My average commute time to work is about 45 minutes. The building not far from the city. I think the reason for the lengthy commute is because the shuttle ride to the metro is a bit far. The shuttle only runs until 7:00 PM. I work late on ocassion like most people in DC. Sometimes I have to take a cab home which can cost a little over $10. The city bus is an option too, but it makes quite a few stops before arriving to the Halstead. The last thing I want to do is take the bus home at 8:30 or 9:00 at night. The building is not in the greatest of areas either. There is no where to walk. It's not convenient to anything unless you have a car. I've found that there are a lot more places with the same amenities and services that are closer to the metro and an even less expensive. I moved in with a really nice special. That is another reason I may not be staying. I'm afraid that I may not get the same special when my apartment contract ends. Otherwise I won't be able to afford to stay here. I hate moving, but I've been looking around and there are many nice options out there for less that what I am paying here, even with a special.

You should move. I would be mad too if I did'nt get a muffin in the monrning. I would box all of my stuff up, call the movers, change my utilities etc.. all over a muffin and a morning paper. I don't know, maybe it's because I don't want a muffin in the morning and I read my news online, but whenever I am upstaris, I always see muffins out and newspapers. I do see people take way too many creamers and even take coffee beans out of the decrative containers which is just gross. I did hear one lady say..."I can take whatever and as much as I want becasue I pay a lot of money to live here" what she fails to see is everyone else does too and perhaps she could be a little for polite and not take so much..it's a bit tacky to say the least, but money does not mean that you have class. Do you know of any apartment community out there that offers shuttle service after 7:00PM?
