Don't Live Here for the Shuttle

If you are thinking of living here, I would definitely inquire about the free shuttle to the metro. The shuttle runs to Van Dorn every half hour during rush hour. Lately, people have been getting turned away from the shuttle since it is full and having to wait 30 minutes for the next shuttle. This is definitely not acceptable if you need to be at work on time. A devil's advocate could say "Get to the shuttle early" but soon it will be a race to who can get there the earliest and get on the shuttle.

I talked to management today, and it was said he would look into pricing for another shuttle but that nothing was being done. He said that it is like the metro...if its full, you have to wait for the next one. What management fails to recognize is that I never do NOT get onto a metro train. And if I did have to wait, another one comes 3 minutes later.

Basically, if you are moving into this complex for the shuttle, I would look elsewhere that has a more reliable shuttle. You don't want to miss an important meeting at work because you got turned away. Or you don't get home until thirty minutes later because you were told to wait at Van Dorn for 30 minutes in 97 degree heat because there was no room.

Besides the shuttle, I put in several maintenace requests for doors to be fixed in May. The doors have not yet been fixed. If management took 30 minutes out of each day to walk around and detect problems, its residents wouldn't seem like they were complaining so much.

When UDR took over this property, they tried to do everything cheaper. One of those things included getting rid of the previous company that provided the shuttle in order to put in the new company. I rode the bus to and from the metro every weekday and everyone raved about the service, especially the friendly driver that we had everyday. When the new company came to do the shuttle, I inquired to the UDR staff why the change was made. They responded that they were saving money, were getting a brand new vehicle with it entirely "wrapped" in their advertising, and were getting longer service hours. As it turns out, the "new" vehicle lasted about a month. Now, the vehicle is commonly a simple passenger van instead of a shuttle bus. The shuttle bus is not wrapped at all in advertisements; it has a similarly sized decal that the last company had, but a little cheaper looking. Even worse, the vehicle misses its scheduled times frequently and doesn't show up until the next scheduled time. Though the change to a new shuttle company is bad, that is the least of the concerns for this place. The Property Manager is immature, classless, and arrogant. The staff is extremely rude and instead of making you feel like a client, they make you feel guilty for letting them know of issues. One staff member lives at the property. While off-duty, she told another resident to "shut the fvck up" after he politely asked her to not let her dog urinate on the grass right outside of his porch. I once had a FedEx delivery that sat for almost four weeks in the concierge office without getting any sort of note on my door or mailbox. The garbage piling up outside of the garbage drop is disgusting. The theater is closed every other week because something breaks. The computers were stolen (great security, UDR) and it took them 6 weeks to get new ones! The fax machine and copier almost never work. To top it off, the new management company has now started charging guests that residents take to the pool a fee of $3 each visit! Of course, they didn't inform us that they were going to make this change after we already paid a $250 amenities fee. The friends I have met at this place and I cannot wait until my lease is up. Don't even bother asking about the mouse problem, hot water lights in one section that frequently go out, how noisy the place is, how the basketball court is 95 degrees because they won't run the air-conditioning (when the A/C runs in there, it makes a very loud noise inside an adjoining apartment. Instead of allowing the residents in that unit to move, the property management decided to just not run the A/C ever in the gym and not have the noise fixed).
