glad i'm leaving

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
Only stayed here for a year, moving this weekend, and glad. The only redeeming thing about this place is the solid concrete making it basically sound proof except for occasional noise from the trash chute. Parking is a mess, and poorly enforced. They leave cars with no parking permits alone, but towed my car after the inspection had expired by only one week. The plumbing is terrible, often there's either no hot, or only hot water, the shower goes between frigid and scalding with no middle ground. Our apartment was almost broken into in the middle of the night by a crowbar, and the building's door locks break regularly allowing anybody to just walk in. The basement always smells like garbage, especially when it's hot. The worst by far is the building's management. When we moved in, our mailbox keys didn't work. It took them a few weeks to fix that. Then they only gave us one new key, and after four or five months of asking every week, they still hadn't gotten us a new one. This is the story for ANY maintenance problem. The washer/dryer on our floor breaks at least once a month, are often unusable for months at a time, and management never hurries to fix them. The main maintenance guy is decent, and generally knows what he's doing, but management never tells him anything is wrong. We learned pretty quickly to talk to him directly instead of going through management. That's perhaps the only other redeeming quality of this building, but it shouldn't have to be that way.
