These apartments are the Projects.
The company that I work for placed me here for three months, and I will be out of here in about three weeks. Im counting every day.
I Killed a Rat (not a mouse) in my kitchen, and I could hear other rats in the walls and ceiling of my kitchen. Shortly after the Rat incident the leasing office, announcing a future extermination, displayed a notice. The exterminators POISONED the Rats, and they died in the walls and ceiling of my apartment; the smell is Horrible!!! The leasing office claimed that there isnt much they can do about it.
Roaches, and other bugs, is a continuous problem.
The apartment was dirty when I moved in, and the New appliances, that I was told would be here, exceeded me in age. The pilot lights didnt stay lit in the oven or stovetop, and you cant read the settings on the knobs. The refrigerator didnt keep the food cold. Maintenance did, however, repair the pilot lights, and replaced the refrigerator after several calls. The furnace doesnt work right, even after maintenance came to look at. The windows (all but one, without screens) get frost on the inside, and let in plenty of cold air in the winter. Additionally, the front door of my apartment has a 1-inch gap, at the bottom, that lets in additional cold air and cigarette smoke from the neighbors smoking in the hallways.
The interior walls of the apartments are painted over major flaws in the plaster. The appliances are old and worn out. One out four phone jacks work.
Visitors' I dont have any visitors due to the stench in my apartment. The complex issues one guest parking pass, and the guest parking lot, depending on where you live in the complex, can be a long walk to your apartment. Resident parking can be an issue in the evening.
Upon move-in, you are issued a security key when you sign your papers, but the neighbors seem to feel it necessary to jam coins into the locks of the security doors, so the doors are never secure.
I had my mail gone through three times the first month I lived here. You can count on some trash being left in the hallways.
As far as the neighborhood goes, Lots of Latinos hanging around in the parking lots, and in front of their apartment building, w/ their music blaring and staring down every human that walks past.
In the early morning, count on lots of honking horns, as people who provide rides for others wont walk and knock on a door.
In the evening, lots of loud salsa music blaring out of open (unscreened) windows. Count on broken glass in the parking lot, and dont be too surprised if find that something has been spilled on the hood of your car. Around the trash dumpsters, you can find treasures such as human feces, broken glass, trash not put into the dumpster, rats, and the occasional person going through the trash.
If you move here, you too, will be counting every day.
