I lived there from July of 2000 until July of 2001. The location is extremely inconvenient because one must use a car to get to any store, restaurant, etc. Management lied to potential tenants when it told them that the outside doors to our apartments were access coded. They deliberately mislead potential tenants into believing they would be secure. Instead, management routinely disabled the locks on the outsside doors in order to allow peddlers and solicitors to bang on our doors and slide circulars under our doors. When I complained about the locks being disabled, the management ignored me, so I contacted the Headquarters. The problem was temporarily fixed, but then management disabled the locks again.

Soon after I had moved in, I observed a bunch of kids opening our entire bank of mailboxes and taking out our mail. I chased them away and complained to management, who did not care. I then complained to both the Postal Service and the Headquarters, so we got our bank of mailboxes shored up--with a bunch of rubber bands!

Soon after I moved in, I also saw a bunch of kids, in the incredibly noisy playground directly beneath my apartment, smashing a window, which was part of my building. I left my apartment and told a maintenance worker. He said to me, "I'll bet they're Black, aren't they'" The people who lived and worked there were, indeed, pretty uncouth.

The winter was miserable because the apartment was incredibly drafty. I remember taping plastic trashbags to the windows to try to stop the drafts. It did not work very well. I paid a fortune for the electric bill.

Soon before I left, in 2001, I was walking down the street, about half a block from my apartment when someone hurled some very loud racial epithets at me. I had seen the culprit before he had hurled the epithets, but when I turned around I did not see him. Not long after that, there was a shotgun armed robbery in the parking lot and a burglary in one of the apartment buildings.

I had learned that I had a right to be present when they inspect my apartment after I move out. They ignored my request to be present. They simply inspected and then attempted to strong arm $50 off of me from my security deposit because, so they claimed, I had needed to shampoo my carpet. I had to make a Federal case out of the matter just to get $50 back from them. As I recall, they also tried to keep more money from me, but I managed to convince them that they had violated my right to be present during the inspection.

On the plus side, each unit has its own washer and dryer, I had a nice carpet, I did not have pest problems, the trees were beautiful, there was a swimming pool and exercise room, and there was ample parking. But living so close to unsavory characters and having a management that did not care, tilts the scale in the direction of my recommending against this place.

FYI, those "nice" trees....they cut them down.
