My boyfriend and I moved into our new apartment in June. We came from a horrible place over in Arlington. I'm from Arlington and have never lived outside of it, but have really enjoyed living in Alexandria. It's still really close to DC, it's practically Arlington.
The space is amazing. I love our layout, we have a foyer & a large open living and dining room, and most importantly a separate bedroom! Also, the bathroom is bigger than the one I had in my old house! My favorite part I think is all the great storage space. I finally have my own bedroom closet! And the closet in the foyer is so huge, I'm amazed at all the stuff I can put in there!
One of the nicest changes from our old place, to here, is the demeanor of the staff. Everyone who works here is very friendly and always helpful. Everyone lives here too, so you know they have an extra-invesment in the community.
The whole property is very well tucked in, and away from everything. Yet is so convenient to I-395 & Glebe Road. There are tons of gorgeous old trees, and lots of other bushes and flowers. The maintenance staff does a very good job of keeping the grounds clean and enjoyable. It's a great place to take a walk and enjoy the outdoors. A nice perk, is that the apartment is not surrounded by other apartments. It is tucked into a quiet, residential neighborhood. So our only other neighbors are single-family houses.
Parking has never once been an issue for us. There is tons of parking in front of my building, plus even more street parking. And a block away is a huge over-flow parking lot, which I have never seen full.
Laundry is great, there are a lot of buildings with laundry and trash in the basement. Where I live there are 3 buildings that I can go to do laundry without even crossing a street. Since the laundry and the trash are all together in the basement, it can get a bit smelly. But I'd rather put up with the smell every once in while, than have to haul all my laundry and spend all day at a laundromat.
The people who live here are very friendly. It seems to be very mixed, with many different races & cultures.
Sound is not an issue for us. There are quite a lot of different people who live in my building. You can sometimes hear people from inside their apartments when you are in the stairwells, but once inside your door, you'd be pretty hard pressed to hear anything too loud coming from neighbors. Even with hardwood floors, the sound is definitely kept to a minimum, and there has never once been an instance where I felt like we were dealing with too much noise.
I think I've covered pretty much everything. Hopefully after reading this review you will get the impression that this a great place to live! Trust me - it is! When I was searching for an apartment back in May, I was so scared that I was going to have to settle for something that had good space and was cheap but was not in a great place, or had unkind office staff or whatever. I just was afraid that there were no places left inside the beltway, that were a great value in a place that I would feel safe and happy living in. But what changed my mind was reading other people's reviews of this community. And then I went to go see it myself and was treated so kindly, as if I was already a resident, that I knew this was the place for me. I plan on staying here as long as I possibly can.
