i had written a review of london park towers a few months ago. since then i have moved into a different apartment in the same building and the experience has been much less pleasant. the difference between one floor and another within the same building is more dramatic than i thought it could be. the neighbors are much noisier. the walls are relatively thick here, but some of the tenants like to watch tv really loudly and argue really loudly and otherwise make a lot of noise. it's a crapshoot as to who you move next to. i saw a few roaches in the other apartment, on the other end of the building. now, it's a rare day where i don't see one scurrying away when i turn on the light in the kitchen. they've sprayed twice, but the place is infested. i don't think anything short of a fumigation would stop them from taking over the place. the tenants are a lot more disrespectful. someone urinated on the garbage can in the laundry room. someone else (or maybe the same person') set off a fire extinguisher in the stairwell. rather than go on their balcony or out front of the building, people use the stairwells as a smoking lounge. parking is better than it used to be, but it's still a nightmare. if you never stay out later than 10:00 PM, it's not so bad but otherwise get used to hunting for street parking. your guests should too, because there's no guest parking and no guest passes. maintenance is prompt, if somewhat spotty. the dishwasher wasn't mounted to the countertop when i moved in so it would wobble around and occasionally fall forward and break dishes. it took three maintenance calls to finally get it fixed. i recommend being there when the maintenance people come. the office staff are ok. no one understands how the entry system works, though. since moving i've been to the office several times to try and have my access information updated so i can buzz visitors in but they manage to have not done it after several months. it's not too much of a problem for now since the previous apartment is still vacant but when someone moves in i don't know what i'll do. the windows are thin. they keep out the rain but otherwise they might as well not be there. if your apartment faces duke street get used to a 24-hour traffic symphony. light sleepers should stay away. did i mention there's a fire station located directly across from the complex' get used to sirens all hours of day and night. i can't imagine living in the apartments that are directly opposite the fire station. my understanding is that the highrise building is better maintained than the midrises, and it wouldn't surprise me. if you can find a northwest-facing unit there (away from duke street and the fire station) it would be a fine place to live. what keeps me here, then' the rent is decent and includes all utilties. the apartments are huge (my 1-bedroom is 974 square feet). the location is convenient. it's reasonably safe here. i'm content to stay here as long as i have reason to live in northern virginia.
