Yo!

Best place we've been so far

My wife and I moved here from Woodmont Park Apartments, which is also run by Kay Management, and is just on the other sidr of 395. Compared to that place, this place is a Kingdom. We've now been here over a year and reside in the high-rise building. In February we will be moving within the same building for monetary purposes. Now onto the review:

Parking: For us, we've never had any trouble. We park behind our building and there are always spots available. Visitor parking runs until midnight, then you either need to find another spot, leave, or get towed. For holiday weekends, there is no towing. So far I've never seen any vandalism or mischief regarding anyone's cars.

Noise: The walls here are great. Only occasionally can we hear our neighbors. The ones to the right of us have a baby and that's the only noise we hear, and it's very minimal. I've never heard any commotion from above or below us.

Grounds: The maintenance staff here does a good job with the grounds. They're always outside watering the plants, picking up trash and keeping the place looking nice.

Safety: I feel safe here. We have an entry-guard system where you need a scan card to get in. The door is always operational and haven't had any troubles using the card. The reason we chose to stay here after our lease was up at the beginning of Jan 08 was b/c we knew the area (which is safe) and were comfortable staying here for another year. After your year lease ends, they put you on a month-to-month, unless you get another apartment within the complex.

Construction: Everything within our apartment works pretty well. We'll have the occasional cabinet coming off it's hinges, or a shower head that needs tightening. As far as the building goes, sometimes an elevator is out of service b/c they repainted it.
There's also a couple of fountains in the front of the property that work 85% of the time, but of course is only run when it's warm outside.

Maintenance: The staff here is excellent. Things get done in a quick and timely manner. We have always been appreciative of the quickness and efficiency of the staff.

Staff: In our experience, the leasing staff has always been friendly and helpful. I've never had any of them give me an attitude. Things get done and if I ever have any questions or complaints, they get resolved in a timely manner.

Positives: Area is safe, the rent is affordable IMO, neighbors aren't loud. There is a fitness center in our building on the ground floor. Free weights, 2 treadmills, 2 bicycles, 2 stair-climbers and some machines for legs and back. Sometimes the treadmills or bicycles don't work and it takes time to fix them. There's also a set of lockers to use, 2 restrooms, a water fountain and 3 TVs to watch. It gets crowded sometimes and I've had experiences where kids would come in, even supervised, and raise hell. Kids climbing on machines and attempting to use them. That's one of the problems we have here.

The only pets that are allowed are cats which is great considering we have one. The best part about it is that London Park doesn't charge you a pet deposit in the beginning of the lease and doesn't charge you monthly either. Cats live here for free!

Another amenity is the business center. I used it for a few months before we had our internet hooked up. They have 4 computers, a fax machine and a photo copier. I believe the center is open from 9-5 everyday except Sunday, where it's closed. In my experience, the business center is more ghetto then anything else. Not too many business people go in there considering everyone usually has a computer of their own inside their apartment.

There are also trash chutes on each floor and a laundry room on each floor. The laundry room holds 2 washers and 2 driers. You use a card to pay for the laundry and the machine you use to put money on the card is on the ground level, right outside the fitness center.

Negatives: There aren't too many negatives here but there a few IMO. We do have bugs in our apartment. None big or insane but they are there, usually at night. At your request, the exterminator can come every Tuesday to spray your place. You don't have to move your dishes and etc out of your cabinets, so it's convenient in that regard.

Our rent was raised 50 dollars at the end of our lease. Typically this happens in apartments so it wasn't a surprise. I list it as a negative b/c anytime you lose money, it sucks ;)

Also the kids here piss me off the most, especially in the summer. The kids here range in age from I'd say 8-16, maybe 17. In the summer, it seemed all they wanted to do was hangout by the fountains in the front. Just sit there all day and run/scream or right their bikes and skateboards around. When nightfall came, some would still be out there making noise. One time a neighbor actually screamed out to them telling them to shut their mouths and the kids naturally responded with a few cuss words. Nice respect. I had also mentioned the couple of times when the kids were in the fitness center. They are allowed in there under supervision so this hasn't happened too often. But the few times I've worked out down there, especially one time, it was difficult to sit through.

All in all, this place is a nice place to live. It's safe, the staff is courteous, the folks are friendly and the place is cool. The problems I've mentioned obviously aren't enough to drive us away. You get used to it. I can't speak for the other 2 mid-rise buildings so if you're looking to move there, try and find reviews for them. I don't know how much of a difference the 2 buildings would have but you should know by now that opinions always vary. I could loathe this place while at the time same time someone else thinks it's paradise.

Good luck with your search!!!
