Lynbrook is terrible, pestilential place. There were bugs from the moment I moved in and it only got worse from there. The ceiling in the bedroom had to be repaired three times -- once for mold, once for some reason that was never divulged to me (I came home to a mystery hole in the ceiling, which was patched up two weeks later when I freaked out at them about leaving this hole there; I had guests coming and didn't want them to know what sort of situation I was reduced to living in), and once because the whole thing crashed through onto my bed. This last time was very smelly, very messy, ruined my brand new throw rug, new sheets and bedspread, plus I was out of my house for a week. I had to fight with the office to get reimbursed for all the ruined stuff and it was like they were doing me a big favor by letting me stay in the guest suite. They even brought in the regional manager to tell me how I had no case. If this happens to you, get the name of their insurance agent. I called the insurance company, and they were very nice, I sent them a couple of pictures of the damage and a letter describing the History of the Leaky Ceiling, and they actually sounded more alarmed than the manager, and paid all of the claim. There's something seriously wrong when the insurance company is more compassionate than the management.
The neighbors are irritating. Fortunately, a large number of them don't speak English, so generally, they left me alone, but the children are a nuisance. I had a ground-floor apartment, so they looked in the windows, rapped on the windows, would stare at me if I sat on the patio and would ask for food if I cooked out on the grill!!!
Oh, also, the sink backs up because my neighbors threw grease and whatever else they could jam down the drain. It's really gross and makes a huge mess when your sinks backs up all over the kitchen floor.
Back to the bugs, I moved out of this place nearly eight months ago, and I'm finally able to look and see a piece of fuzz on the rug or a crumb on the counter in the kitchen and not run to get a tissue or piece of toilet paper to flush it down the toilet. Roaches, GIANT crickets, spiders....Maybe if you're an entomologist, you might like it here.
