Six Great Years

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2008
I lived in the Manor House for six wonderful years. My apartment on the second floor of the Nelson Ave. building was exceptionally clean and ready to go the day I moved in during July of 2002. Anytime I had a problem with an appliance, the toilet, or pests, I got prompt and courteous attention from management and my problem was almost always fixed within 24 hours. While the back parking lot is a bit cramped, I never had a problem with parking because there is plenty of space on the street on both sides of the building and there was never any neighborhood zoning issues. I could park close by at any hour of the night and I never had a safety issue with my car or myself at any time. Delray is a very safe neighborhood.
The neighborhood is the best part about living at Manor House. Delray is perhaps the greatest neighborhood in the DC metropolitan area, and I really do mean that. Once you come home from work each night, there are a number of wonderful restaurants, shops, bars, parks, libraries, and schools that are all a short walking distance away. There is even an excellent Italian eatery named Monroe s right across the street from Manor House! It doesn t get much better than that.
Manor House is a family owned and operated building and one that I could appreciate. I found the staff, Olivia, Red, George, and Mrs. Rhodes to be wonderful, caring people and very generous with their time whenever you needed them. Here s a true story: On the morning of Christmas Eve 2007, I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment for the first time ever and had no way of getting back in. To make matters worse, I was scheduled to fly to Phoenix later on that morning to spend X-mas with my family and I hadn t even packed my bags yet, and here I was, locked out of my apartment without my cell phone to call for help, wearing only my sweat pants, a T-shirt, my workout jacket, and my sandals on. Luckily, I had my car keys and I knew where my landlord lived close by. I drove to Mrs. Rhodes house, sheepishly knocked on the front door and luckily was greeted by an understanding landlord, if somewhat perplexed by my attire and the fact that I knew where she lived. What did she do' She invited me in to stay warm, immediately called her son to let her know I would be knocking on his door to give me the master key to unlock my apartment, and even gave me $5 of her purse money "just in case you need it" . If there was a prize for Landlord of the Century I would have nominated Mrs. Rhodes on the spot. She was very understanding of my predicament, not at all angry that I showed up at her private residence to seek help, and even GAVE me money! You couldn t ask for a better person or family to rent an apartment from.
Do yourself a favor, if you are interested in renting in Delray, I would highly recommend Manor House to you for the exceptional location, the great apartments, (the hardwood floors were so nice I had ones just like them installed in my new home), and the courteous and caring management that I had a chance to get to know over the six great years I lived there. Even though I m very happy with my new home, I still miss living there and count those years at Manor House as some of the best ones in my life.
