I've been here nearly ten months and I think I've been through just about everything a resident can be except robbery.
I toured the model originally with a lady who led me to believe that the apartment I was receiving was identical to the one she was showing me. When I came to sign my lease that lady was no longer employed at the office and another lady got my paperwork done, but didn't have time to do a walk-thru with me. I opened the apartment door and immediately discovered roaches climbing on the walls, old carpet (I was promised new) and no dishwasher. Further, the place seemed much smaller. Upon measuring the place personally, I discovered the 1200 square feet I was promised was more like 860. Also, tons of maintenance issues that were obvious. I marched directly back to the leasing office only to be told that they could put me in another apartment but it would be more expensive and one would not be available anytime soon. I was stuck...U-Haul truck loaded down and no place else to go. I had to move in and struggle with management to get both maintenance and amenity issues resolved.
Unfortunately, I got absolutely nowhere with the first manager. She was fired and the next one came in. I thought maybe he would be more eager to address residents needs. Not true at all. He gave nothing more than lip service and those were lies. I then contacted his boss at corporate and he was so mad about it that he started sending people over to harrass me within fifteen minutes of the letter being facsimiled copied to him. I had three visits from four separate men within a half-an-hour, all claiming to be there for maintenance issues. Only one even had an apartment uniform on, NONE even had TOOLS with them. How are you going to fix anything without tools' I had NO notice of their visits and one even yelled at me for not letting him in the door. Total bull and I took it as an intimidation tactic by management. I ended up having to call the police and file a report because I did not feel safe. Now, I have had to go all the way up the chain of command to the CEO of the management company about this.
On top of everything else, there are other MAJOR problems with this community.
(1) ROACHES...they are everywhere...they greet me at the door when I get home. Occassionally, even ON my front door.
(2) CRIME & GANGS...shots have been fired, people beaten, Fairfax Police have gone so far as station a survelliance RV across the street because of the gangs in this community.
(3) ARBITRARY ELECTRIC BILLS...due to widely fluctuating electric bills I had requested a specific statement of usage from the office. I put in a formal, written request and paid their required fee for the service. Three and a half months later I still haven't received the statement when I was told it would take only five business days. They electric is clearly not based on individual unit usage even though management says it is. I have had bills that were anywhere from $2.11 for one month to $98. RIDICULOUS!
(4) Laundry facilities are a joke. There is one in each building but you compete for three washers and dryers at a $1.50 each.

On a brighter note, parking is rarely a problem and the common areas are well maintained. Trash facilities are easily accessible and the rent is cheap...but beware, as always, you definately get what you pay for here.

I can vouche for seeing the police RV with the telescoping tower cameras and the squads of bicycle police to clean up the alleys of the little 12 year old gang bangers, busting windows and damaging vehicles by running across the top of them.
