This is a brand-new (less than a year old), quality highrise, perfectly quiet, a few minutes' walk to Braddock Road metro station and ten blocks from King St./Old Town and the Potomac waterfront.
We have a smallish one-bedroom, but the bathroom is much larger and much nicer than most apt. bathrooms, and includes a washer and dryer. The kitchen is small but has lots of cabinets, and a large counter/bar which serves as a dining table for 2.
There are several floor plans available in the building and different views. Our floor plan has windows on two sides which makes for a very light-filled living room. On the other hand, one of the views is of an auto repair place...
Our other view (out the glass-enclosed balcony) is of nice landscaping, an attractive office park and the highrise nextdoor.
On the opposite side of the building the view stretches on for miles, with the Capitol and the Washington Monument in the distance, although there is some industrial stuff inbetween.
The neighborhood is an odd mixture of new highrises and townhouses, old warehouses, nice cafes and an old McDonalds, and public housing starting a couple of blocks away. Its definitely "transitional", but the location is so good that renters and buyers are not deterred. In any case, it seems safe and the building itself is extremely quiet, although there are loud teenagers that congregate somewhere nearby some evenings.
There are two levels of indoor parking underneath the building with enough spaces for all residents. You need an access card to get in and it feels safe. Theres a bicycle cage (although it doesnt have bike racks).
On the top floor (12th) theres a club room with a pool table, bar, gas fireplace, two sitting areas, large screen TV with VHS & DVD, and that great view of the Capitol. The only catch is that if you want to rent it for a party its $100 per hour. But its usually more or less empty so you can play pool (sweet!) or hang out almost any time you want.
The residents are not very talkative (compared to our last apt. complex), but not unpleasant, either. And wed rather have quiet neighbors than imposing ones.
Obviously, I highly recommend this complex. It could be considered pricey, but you certainly get your moneys worth.
