I have lived at Meridian at Braddock Station for about two months now. I am in Phase II, whose oldest apartments opened in 2002. The amenities at this place are great for the money, and that's what initially attracted me to the place. All apartments have a dishwasher, washer/dryer, range/oven, and microwave. In the new building, this stuff is all good quality--not top-of-the-line, but also not the junk I have seen in other apartments. You have to pay for utilities (water, gas, electricity); the office told me that would cost between $100-150 per month, and that has proven to be accurate. Underground garage parking is also reasonably priced ($25/month for first car).
I have had a couple of problems (leaking water heater, leaking window), but the maintenance staff are prompt and get the job done. They even followed up on the problems I noted on my move-in checklist, and they leave notes to let you know that the work has been done. Both maintenance and office staff are professional.
Common ammenities here are nice. The lobbies and the Club Room have overly nice regal-like furniture, and there's a concierge desk that deals with packages, dry cleaning, and the like. There fitness and weight rooms are adequate and seldom crowded. The pool is tiny (10 yards, two lanes), so don't move here to train for the 100-meter medley; but it is staffed with a lifeguard. And there are plenty of chairs by the pool. The complex also provides gas grills and locker rooms up by the pool, in addition to charcoal-based grills in a picnic area down below. Finally, in July the complex hosted a couple of events (a "tea time" and a cookout). I doubt this is a regular thing, but it was great to have residents and staff mixing together and enjoying the food. People are friendly, but not annoyingly so.
This place is a walk of less than 5 minutes from Braddock Road Station (Metrorail and various buses), which is great. After dark, it is eerily quiet on the walk home, but the path is well lit, and I have no reason to believe it is unsafe. There is a McDonald's across the street, and there are Giant grocery stories, two 7-Elevens, a Wendy's and a Subway within 5 blocks (which may include walking through project housing). The area is an odd mix of luxury apartments, snazzy new townhomes, old townhomes, housing projects, and office buildings. Oh, and there's also a big Post Office two blocks away.
Someone else mentioned college students living here, and indeed in Summer 2003 there are about 100 college student interns housed at this place (I asked one of them about that). Although they make me feel old when I'm at the fitness center, I have had no problems with trash, noise, etc. So--like most places--your experience will vary depending on who your neighbors are.
Overall, I have been quite pleased with my experience here. The only annoying thing is that they still have not added my name to the directory call box that is at the door.
