I Loved This Place!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004

I moved to the DC area in April 2003 and returned to Denver in July 2004. I did a fairly comprehensive internet search for apartments before going to DC. I looked at 10 different properties advertised as "close to Metro" on the Yellow Metro line - and this was the best for the money. Some had unreasonably long walks, others had bus connections -- but this one is 200 yards. This was my top choice from my web search, but I always try to make well-researched decisions.

As a middle-aged white male who has passed his fighting years, I was also interested in safety and security. I never felt unsafe in this building or on the walk to the Metro.

After looking at the 10 different place during 3 days in a Holiday Inn in Woodbridge, I told the management that I wanted to move in immediately. I did - they were very accomodating. I also asked for a 14 month lease, and they accepted that rather strange term. I ended up going slightly over, and had to go to on a month-month for an extra $100/month for part of my time at the end.

It is a secure building with key cards and a front desk that is open from 9 am to 12 midnight. The Concierge was an exceptional man that helped whenever needed. The evening desk people were always nice, and I enjoyed having folks to talk to since I was in DC without my family. Obviously the manager was responsive to my needs, since she approved my unusual lease terms - and I enjoyed our relationship that developed during our brief encounters and at regular community parties that the staff put on. The maintenance folks worked hard to please, but I do have to say that I called only twice in 14 months. I lived in Phase 2 -- which was brand new when I moved in -- so there were very few problems. We had some minor issues with the dishwasher upon arrival, and the air conditioning the first summer, but they were promptly solved and due to newness. They changed air filters and did other routine maintenace on a schedule, and always left proper notifications.

The parking is underground and safe, protected entry by key card. I tried to ride the Metro, and rarely drove in the DC area, so my car would be parked for weeks at a time, and never an issue. Parking is an extra $25 per month - and worth it. There is also a car wash stall underground.

The elevators are the fastest I have ever seen, and I rarely waited. Whoever programmed them gets a gold star.

I lived facing south in Phase 2 - but should have asked to see a north facing apartment. The views from the north side up high are worth an extra few bucks a month. You can see the view from the top floor party room, and it is great!

Also, if you want a swimming pool to use, be sure to find one that is HEATED. The one at this complex is NOT... and when my daughter visited she about froze her buns off even though it was June and hot.

Some reviewers have complained about noise. The younger folks lived on the lower floors. I NEVER ONCE HEARD MY NEIGHBORS IN 14 MONTHS.

An old friend is taking a job in DC, and I am recommending Meridian at Braddock to him. I really only have good things to say about Meridian at Braddock, and fond memories. It was easy living in a very nice place at a reasonable price for the DC area. My life in the suburbs is considerably more difficult.
