I have lived at Millbrook for a while (2003-Present - it says 2005 below for some reason). First the positives: I have a great floor plan for a good price relative to other apartments in the area, I have a couple of great neighbors who have been here for a while too and keep an eye out for me, the shuttle bus is fantastic. Now for the negatives:

Noise. It has been said a lot in other postings, but bears repeating. The noise is unbearable. It hasn't always been this way. I think it has to do with who management is renting to lately. We used to have more mature neighbors. Now the place is full of people who have obviously never lived in an apartment before and don't know that fighting in the hallways, stomping around your apartment, screaming at each other, yelling off the balconies, dragging heavy things through your house on a regular basis, and loud music are all ten times louder when there is no insulation between the floor and the ceiling of the apartment below and walls are thin. I'm tired. Really tired. Why' Because the people upstairs "walk" around or are building something (at least that's what it sounds like) at 11:00 pm, 2:00 am, 4:00 am, almost every single night. I should have known it was going to be bad when they moved in between the hours of 10:00 pm and midnight on a weekday (3 days in a row - the last day unpacking boxes in the bedroom until 5:00 am). I have lived in other apartments before and I know to expect some noise. I have had other neighbors above me. It has never been as bad as it is right now. I complained to management. Nothing done.

Maintenance. The maintenance guy showed up in a reasonable time frame & fixed a problem ONE time in my history here. I have only called maintenance issues 3 or 4 times in my 4 years here. When they have come, they have left trash, tools, nails/screws, on the floor and the place is dirty. They usually have to come back 2-3 times because they never actually fix the problem. I have holes in my walls from the recent siding repair & painting. Reported three times since December. Nothing done.

Trash. The trash situation is bad. However, that has more to do with the residents than management. People who live here pile trash on top of the recycling bins. For some reason they cannot open the recycling bins and they cannot take their regular trash to the trash compactor right next to the recycling area. There is so much turnover here that there is an amazing amount of trash, so the trash area always has bags, boxes, furniture, electronics, etc. piled up around it. I've seen racoons and other animals in the trash area. Trash blows around. They have put up notices & the grounds crew cleans it up every morning (I feel bad for them having to go through all that), but the people who live here just do not care. Again, this goes to who management is renting to.

Parking. Parking is ample and easy to find. If you live in the front of the complex, there are fewer spaces available so you may have to park a few buildings away if you come home late at night. The major problem with the parking/streets is the people drive at high speeds and run the stop signs. They will speed up and honk if you are pulling out of a parking spot or walking across the street. I regularly have to jump back because of people coming around the corner so fast without stopping at the stop sign. The speeding can also create additional nose. This is the only apartment complex I have ever lived in that does not have speed bumps.

Also, for some unknown reason, my name/number regularly disappear from the callbox for guests to get through the gate. I have had to have entered in 3 times in the last year. I lived here for 3 years with no problem, new management company comes in and this starts. Sounds like someone doesn't know how to use the computer.

So, if you like noisy, trashy neighbors, it s totally worth the price for the layout & amenities. It's a very convenient location. The shuttle bus is reliable and will get you there even in snow. No one who works in management lives here though and you can talk to them about all of these problems until the cows come home. They do not get it or do not care, I'm not sure which it is. Actually, I think they have their "favorites" and everyone else is ignored. I don't complain, I pay my rent on time, I live quietly, I respect my neighbors. I think I deserve the same respect from my neighbors & management. When I first moved in, it was a completely different place. The person who rented my apartment to me lived in my building. Everything was clean. Neighbors were grownups. Oh how I miss those days....

I would agree we have some trashy residents lately. Most people here are decent but the trashy ones make ten times as much noise, so it seems as if there are more of them. To give you an example, here's what's going on in the apartment above me. It's a 2BR rented by a construction company as a dormitory for out-of-town, temporary construction workers. Between 3-5 very young men stay there at at time, each one for 3-6 months. There is one foreman type who lives in the smaller bedroom, and the others live in bunks in the larger bedroom, which is over the room I sleep in. Oh My God - the noise. When they come home in the evening, I can hear them in the parking lot. I'm sitting in my living room at this time, which is in the back of the building, NOT in front where the cars are. They cannot approach their apartment without yelling and laughing. It echoes in the halls, as do their footsteps as they run up the stairs and down the hall like children (which they practically are - I'd say they're 18-20.) Then the front door above mine creaks open and it's like a stampede. They yell all night and stomp on the floor and make weird, unexpected thunking and bumping noises. I went up to yell at them once after a really loud boom and they said they'd knocked over a chair. Well, I would guess from the sound of things that they knock over a chair every other night. One night they had a brawl at 1am. My boyfriend went up to talk to them that time, but they wouldn't answer the door. We're moving next month mainly because of these people. I'm posting this to warn potential renters that just because you pay $1700/mo doesn't necessarily mean your quality of life is going to be much better than if you rented down the hill (like somewhere else in Mark Center) for $1300.

For the money you pay here, you should expect more of a luxury unit than what really is worth much less.
