Searching for an apartment is a lot of work and I know how important these ratings were to me, so here is my honest review of Millbrook after living here the past two years.

Positives:
1.) Safety being a woman living alone, I have felt very safe and comfortable at Millbrook. Never have I felt unsafe walking through the neighborhood at night or walking to and from my car. Plus the security alarms in each unit add an extra feeling of comfort.
2.) Maintenance each maintenance worker that I have encountered has been extremely kind and helpful. The biggest issue I had was with my garbage disposal breaking and within 24 hours they were in my apartment installing a brand new one. Each request is always filled that same day or the next. I even had a maintenance employee go so far as to make me another key for my apartment when I was locked out on New Years Eve!
3.) Shuttle Buses these are very convenient and a great amenity to have at Millbrook. The buses run in the mornings and late afternoon back and forth to Pentagon City metro without any stops in between. You can make it home between 10-20 minutes almost every night! Although, they can be late at times and not running perfectly on schedule, I have never had any issues. Kevin, one of the bus drivers, is the best!
4.) Floor Plan I live in a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment, I believe it s the Aster model, and it s always been comfortable for me. The bathroom is pretty big for a one bedroom and bigger than most bathrooms I have seen in other apartments. The washer and dryer is in unit (in the corner of my bathroom) and I have never had a problem fitting large sheets or lots of towels in them both.
5.) Appliances the microwave was old and crummy when I moved in, so I actually replaced it with my own microwave. However, the stove and oven are nice and new. They are gas and not electric.
6.) Location Giant, CVS, Starbucks and Blockbuster are right across the street. It s a nice walk and very convenient. Illusions, the Thai restaurant, is great for cheap martinis and drinks!
7.) Management the people in the leasing office have always been nice and kind to me, although I have heard tons of complaints from other tenants. But it s a leasing office, what can I say. Plus there is always going to be a high-turnover rate it s this way in most apartments.

Negatives:
1.) Noise If you are moving to Millbrook, make sure you get an apartment on the top floor! I currently live on the third floor and I hear everything above me and even sometimes below me! Each evening, I hear the person above me come in from work, put down their bags, run the water and walk across the living room. It s terrible! When the TV is off, you can hear so much noise that at times I thought someone was jumping up and down or dropping weights on the floor above me! It s definitely frustrating at times if you want peace and quiet.
2.) Mold problems I am a VERY clean person that scrubs my bathroom at least once a week; however, there is a significant amount of mold that continues to grow around the tiles in the bath tube. Maintenance has been by my apartment to re-caulk this tile, however, it keeps coming back. I have never experienced this problem in any other apartment I have lived in. I believe it s due to the fact that the tile was poorly and not properly installed.
3.) Gym if you are looking for a big, nice gym with tons of great equipment, do not move into Millbrook. I believe it has only one or two treadmills, if they are working, and a couple weight machines. I guess it s nice for a short run after work if you don t want to run outside in the winter, but overall it s not a nice amenity.
4.) Carpets the carpet in my apartment was pretty stained in spots when I moved in. I asked them to replace it and after I signed the lease, they said they could not. This was pretty disappointing. I think that Millbrook should spend more money on renovating some of the apartments, especially replacing the carpeting more often between tenants.

Overall, I would recommend Millbrook to other people, but try to get an apartment on the TOP floor!
