I could write 20,000 words on this place and not get to half of the problems I've had here.
When we first moved in our electricity kept dying on us and the head (moron) maintenance guy swore that we were either lying or crazy because they'd never send a guy out when it was off. It even went out during the Super Bowl with my Seahalws playing.
This kept happening for months and finally after endless pleading they sent out a REAL electrician and he instantly realized that it was water leaking into the circuit box in the storage room.
We've had endless issues with the place, and the maintenance guys they send out are clueless 99 times out of 100.
This is only a couple of the endless list of problems we've had here.
IN the dead of winter the furnace went out and it took over a month for them to fix it.
I've lived all over the country and I've never ever lived in a place like this.
The sad part is that it has potential but they keep hiring morons to run and maintain the place.
The people speaking on roaches and bugs are not kidding. While we've been lucky not to have many of them they do send out notices all the time that they will be inspecting units for bugs and it's been ongoing.
When I moved in they were out of parking stickers I asked if we were safe and they said "yes" then they proceeded to tow my car a week later and never even thought of reimbursing me the cash, even after I asked.
On top of that they must have a slimy back door deal with the tow company which authorizes them to drive onto the premises anytime they want to tow people and the tow company doesn't even have to talk with the 24 hour security first.
I love when I go to the front desk to get my balance (rent plus utilities) and the girl tells me one number then I go up to the accounting office and get a different number then I pay the higher of the two then find out later I have a late charge because both of them low balled me.
Our Gym key card didn't work for 9 months.
They wouldn't let us use the pool without a photo ID that the office has to make for you. It would have been nice to know this prior to walking to the pool and prior to the summer.
I love the atmosphere when sipping my morning coffee out on the deck as police Helicopters search the area from above.
Sometimes I come home to 6, 7 or 8 police cars searching the complex for God knows who.
I could sue these people and probably own this place with all the troubles we've had but I wouldn't take this place for free if they begged me.
Now I feel much better.
Thanks for the therapy.
peace

I must agree that the staff has gone through trying times, but they are better organized and better managed. I can say the mount vernon square team cares and they can admit that they made mistakes and have no problem in rectifying this.
Please note, crime does not have a specific address. To see police cars through my community from time to time let's me know that they are responding and worst case, getting rid of the bad guys, if there are any. I would think you would want them there if you needed them (police)
Why would you go to the front desk to ask for a balance when it specifically says to call the accounting office? They are receptionists. Did you want to use that angle to use against the staff?
Everyone signs a lease that states the policies about towing. Did you read yours?

I agree that there seems to have been some improvements--or attempts in that direction.
However, on the matter of the varying rent/bill balances, I agree with the original person's comment. If the receptionist is being allowed to provide that information--and apparently they are--it should be accurate and match accounting's figure. Not doing so is an indication of a lapse of information/communication--which is true for any business with information disparities.
Additionally, the fact that accounting's figures are routinely incorrect, and there is a constant assessment of late fees. These should be disputed because the tenants must rely on the source of the information to ensure accuracy. And if that accuracy is not in place from that source--and it definitely should be--the tenant should not be penalized for the administrative/system flaws in the management office. It is inequitable, and given the frequency with which it occurs--highly suspect.
In my personal account history, there has always been an issue with inaccurate figures, miscalculations, and accounting staff "forgetting" to do certain things. And that represents an unequivocable problem with a variety of possibilites. Some of which I have come to know to be the case: inexperienced/unknowledgable/lacadasical staff, system gaps and misalignment with headquarter's. But it is past time for the management office to handle the problems with a simple mantra "Get 'er done!!!"

To the staff member who responded to my original post.
The tow policy is clear but part of that policy is that they give us stickers to put on out cars. They were out of stickers and told us we'd be ok. Then the tow company came through and towed the car costing me over $100 (that Mt. Veron Square wouldn't give back)
Your second (poor) excuse was about accounting. First of all why even have a front desk person accepting checks and answering questions about money sitting there with a computer in front of her if she's not going to have up to date rent/utility costs?
Second of all can you imagine how long the line would be if everyone that lived there had to go through the 2 accounting people to find out exactly what they owe?
It's really easy to network the front desk to accounting (they are 50 feet apart) but since they don't use that 1986 technology i'm left to assume they enjoy the added profits from high late fees.
I'm also 51 days removed from living there and they still have not given me my deposit back even though they agreed to give all but $300 back.
They also tried to pull a fast one on me by charging me rent for moving out early but then they rented the apartment to someone else meaning (by law) they have to reimburse me what I had paid (over $1000) when I moved out.
They thought I had signed a waiver (disguised under a sneaky name) to give up that right when i first signed the paperwork but I knew better and didn't sign it. When I spoke with them on the phone they were sure I had given up the right to this money and I could hear her shuffling through my paperwork over and over tryiong to find that waiver. Once she didn't find it she relunctantly admitted that they owed me the money but here we are 51 days past and they still haven't given it to me.
I spoke with them again recently and they informed me that they didn't have a correct address even though the exact same lady said she remembers our last conversation (which was only about a forwarding address. She had the city, zip code, but not the PO Box number. How convenient!!!
now she said they are delayed because they have to do stop payments on the checks but why on earth would they mail out checks without the PO box number?
Back to the accounting problems (innacurate numbers given) We were told two numbers by the frront desk and accounting. Then we found out 5 weeks later that we were being taken to court for owing $14 past due.
Then I called the Attorneys office and they said to pay it plus their costs and it would be over. I did this and then got a notice 2 weeks later saying ZI missed the court ddate and was being evicted unless I paid $1300 in 3 days.
I forked out over $1800 over a $14 gas bill.
I could give you another 500 stories about this place, including the sex offenders that live there, gang members, and various other criminals but I'm sick of thinking of this place.
If anyone wants to live in this place go for it, but don't say you haven't been warned.
