Terrible place to live

I will never recommend the Park Place @ Van Dorn to anyone I like. The management is very rude; the maintenance is very respondent, but has not clue as to what the problem is nor fix it. Parking is terrible after 5pm; appliances are the cheapest of any place I have ever lived, and the noise from above and from the stairs are very loud. I am a carperter and maintenance part time; these are the most cheaply built apartments I have ever lived in.

I have been living here for about a year now and I have to disaagree with your post. The management is not rude to me when I go in. They seem to always help me when I go in. I never have a problem with maintenance. If I call them which is very seldom, they fix the problem the first time. The appliances seem like standard appliances that are in apartment buildings and as long as you keep them clean, there shouldn't be any issues. i do agree with you about the parking but hey, it's open parking so what can you do. I am sure you knew this before you moved here. I don't believe the apartments are cheap and if you hear noise above, you should move to a top floor. I never hear my neighbors.

If you never hear your neighbors, that's because you have quiet neighbors. :) I disagree that it is "terrible" however; all garden-style wood-frame construction apartment buildings are pretty much the same. (To original poster, if one is a carpenter and has some knowledge of construction techniques, then you're less excused than your average layperson in terms of doing due diligence and investigating before you rent. If that means asking that the staffer have access to the unit above-next door when you are viewing the unit you intend to rent and having someone go in there and walk, make noise, etc. so you can see if you hear it, so be it (this obviously would require a day's notice to the occupants of the other units as to access). The stove in particular is the cheapest possible (hell, I didn't even know you could order a stove without a clock or temperature indicator light or oven light in the last 20 years).
