I have mixed feelings towards parkwood mostly b/c it's where I grew up *sighs*. I lived there when I was a toddler until a year after high school.
Pros:
(1)I loved the schools I went to. Most of them have been completely remodeled and are pretty impressive even by "posh" standards.
(2)The rooms were decently sized.
(3)Our kitchen was renovated a couple years before I moved out and was done very nicely.
(4)We had wood floors...well parque(sp) floors
(5)The pool was never overly crowded
(6)We had a nice view of the pool from our balcony and the noise from the pool didn't bother us that much.
(7)Maintenance...They took forever to come fix things but when they did finally come they usually fixed it right the first time and didn't need to be called again...they were also pretty nice guys.

Cons:
(1)Roaches...I understand all apts will probably have bugs but no matter how clean we got our apt there were always roaches. In the daytime you'd never know but I was always terrified to get a midnight snack because once you turn the lights off they ALL have a party in your house especially in the kitchen and when you turn the light on you just see 50-100 of them scamper off in various directions.
(2)Upon signing the lease my mother and grandmother claim they were told that the apt will be repainted every 1-2 years. Well we lived there over 10 years and NEVER once had our apartment repainted.
(3)Our neighbors were downright scary lol My grandma is a VERY tiny asian lady (she's under 5 feet!) yet our neighbors complained that she walked like an elephant and were always calling the police. The woman would wait until we took our clothes down to the laundry room and then follow right after, throw our clothes on the floor and then put hers in so she didnt have to pay! We confronted her and she yelled at us! The next time we saw her follow down right after us my mom went downstairs to stop her and the lady was sitting on top of the washer with a knife! My mom went back to our apt and let her have the free wash LOL Her kids used to spit on our welcome mat, they would bang on our door and then run into their apt...etc etc etc
We got our revenge though..on the day we moved out we played basketball and played with a pogo stick in the apt all while yelling at the top of our lungs and banging on her walls for about 10 min. Then we went outside and sat in our car...sure enough the police came and I just wish I could see the annoyed look on their faces and the surprised look on her face upon discovering the apartment was unlocked and completely EMPTY!!! haha
(4)Aside from neighbors...people were always sitting outside the building on the steps drinking alcohol and smoking weed. When you would try to pass by they would call out "hey baby" "where you going so fast girl" "I got something for you"...disgusting
(5)People were always parking in my mom's assigned spot. Sometimes she would just have them towed but then she would end up parking on the street anyways because if not they would vandalize her car. Other times she would take time to knock on each door in the building on front of her spot to see who's car it was and ask them to move it and a lot of times they would curse at her and still not move it.
(6)There were about 15 or so building if I remember correctly and only 4 dumpters so trash was always piling up something aweful and it was so embarrassing to have guests come over especially since our building was right in front of two of the dumpters...I remember asking my friends to drop me off on the street instead of at my apt b/c I didn't want them to see the trashy place I lived.
(7)There are so many kids at this complex and hardly any of them behaves like they have parents. They curse and vandalize the complex. I once had a three year old boy tell me to s--- his d--- after I asked him if he'd like me to help push him on the swings! And if you have the guts to take one of those kids straight to their parents for something horrible they've done (like jumping on your car!) dont expect the parent to get mad at them..they will curse you out for bothering them.
Word of advice from a kid who use to live there...unless your kid is tough don't let them play outside on their own..EVER. I was bullied. My toys were always either stolen or completely ruined. My backpack was stolen once but a nice lady caught the kid as they were running and gave it back to me. I rarely played outside w/o a parent present but once when I was about 9 yrs old...I had a man come sit next to me on the swings and ask if my mom was home and he asked if she was alone or if my dad was there with her...he was so seedy and scary...I think he was either a pedofile...or he was interested in assulting my mom. He lived in one of the apartments next to the playground.
(8)I once bought a new computer. On the day it was to arrive I called the main office and they said nothing had come for me. 2 weeks of calling and still the office said they had nothing. Finally in the 3rd week I went to the office and convinced them to let me go to the back room and sure enough were 4 HUGE boxes with my name and address. On top of them was the shipping information which stated that the boxes had been signed for on the day they were originally suppose to have arrived!!! The lady apologized and said the boxes had been sitting there for over 2 weeks and that she didnt know that I had been calling about "those" boxes.
(9)Once a lady was beaten by her boyfriend/husband/lover in the hallway. She was screaming and he just kept yelling curse words and throwing her against the other apt doors (they are metal doors so you could hear loud sounds when he did that) my mom and grandma were scared to do anything so we just listened in horror as he threw her down the stairs and continued to assault her until the police arrived.

So...no I would not recommend this place to anyone. Yes I have fond memories there but only because of the love and respect that occured in my own apartment with my own family.... but everything outside of that was just disgraceful.

Wow... that's the longest, most descriptive review I have ever read. That place sounds like the real ghetto (unmatch to NYC... where I grew up). Thanks for the review. I would NOT consider that place. I hope that you and your family are happier now, in a more respectful complex.

I am actually disappointed because I just checked the place out and it looked great. The staff were nice to me as no where else I went. I am a bit shocked after having read this. I already applied for a studio apartment but will reconsider moving in. I hope those horrible people got evicted. Thank you for the review!
