Are you buying or renting' Read this

We have rented from a private owner for a little over 6 months. Although we have one of, if not THE smallest condos in here, it is "not bad". Parking is one assigned spot, so I get to play the parking game war over visitor spots. The development is very safe, not one incident I know of. My girlfriend feels safe, and the neighbors are all young yuppies. Dont be surprised if you hear the theme song to Sanford & Son if you role up in anything less classy than a Saab. I have yet to see a kid. The fitness room is minimal, but you have 24 hour access. Almost directtly off I-390. Shuttle to the Metro M-F to Pentagon City. A nice gym is across the street. We live in a quiet building, no noise complaints yet. Electric bill runs pretty high, $90 and we're hardly home, never watch TV & rarely ran the AC.
If you are renting, this is a perfect alternative to a highrise nightmare. Visit it first and see for yourself, we had a lot of cleaning to do for our place. A highrise apt will get you a lot more space, but having a shuttle to metro, convenient location and experience of living in a condo community is nice. They allow pets, which thrills my girlfriend who has to pet every single dog.
If you are buying, you'll see for yourself. The condos are going a little overpriced and you'll notice several have been on the market for awhile. That's because every young yuppie who owns one for 3 years thinks they can yield a 30% profit in a few years just by taking a nice picture of the stupid pool (which every high-rise does, but noone ever really uses) and tries to label this as located in Old Towne (barely, maybe legally but no, not even close).
Overall, dicker with the rent like you would if you were bying the place, or like if you were buying a used car. If you pay @ or under $1200/month for the 6-700sq/ft, it ok. I might be a little unrealistic about rent prices in this area, but thats from what I have seen so far.If you like to come home and mind your own business, get up @4a to run on the treadmill, hate kids and loud people, dread the thought of living in a high rise with the rest of the plebians, love your new 3-series more than life and dont mind a small place...you've found a home.
If you think an 900sq/ft 1 bedroom in a highrise way down by Millbrook that has a big pool and no shuttle, plenty of parking for your 1991 Corolla is a better value for $1200/month...well youre wrong and you'll soon find out, but then this DEFINITELY not your place.
