I lived at the Portals of Alexandria from 2006-2007. There was a roach problem initially, it was well hidden and once I found it, I rectified it. After several trips from the pest control and to home depot to purchase my own solution, it subsided. Staff seemed unsurprised but willing to call in the pest control regularly. Most of the problem was due to other tenants not taking out their trash and such. The local electricity bill was based on unit size not actual useage so my bill was always high, this was not good.
However, it was safe and very central to VA, MD and DC.
