Here is the Nitty Gritty you Need to Know
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 10/12/2007
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I've lived here for six months. Below I've outlined the good, the bad, and the ugly:
The Good
--------
Friendly, responsive staff
Monthly events
Location by Whole Foods, parks, King St., etc.
Amenities: pool, gym, biz center, terraces, billiards, bagels and doughnuts
Apartments: latest appliances, granite, tile, even wood in some
Electricity: fairly cheap, due to good insulation
Beauty: Great landscaping. Great interior art. Great design.
The Bad
-------
- Construction noise: never stops. It's right by several big lots under construction.
- Construction quality: elevators go out, garage doors fail, weird mechanical errors
- Water bill: includes water, sewer, and a $25 surcharge for your HVAC
- Water: tastes funny and produces white scum. Drink bottled water
- No rent control. Your rent can jump up a shocking amount on renewal.
- Light pollution: The place is lit like a christmas tree 24/7
The Ugly
--------
- Environment: This was an old railroad yard. There are pumps in the garage to vent toxic gases that emerge from the ground. You can bet there are a ton of nasty toxins down there. There are also factories nearby, as well as a coal-burning power plant, which produces a lot of very small particle emissions. Finally, you are right by I-95, which puts out its own CO cloud.
Overall, I am very happy here. Although the contractor that built this place clearly cut some corners, the staff manage it very well and it's a great place to live. But I wouldn't plan to stay too long. B/c the costs can increase a lot, the construction noise can keep you awake all night, and you just don't know what all the pollution in this area will do to your health in the long run.
